[Help Thread] Big Blind Discussion

Does anybody have any tips on improving 5BLD success rate(I don't really care about speed at the moment)? (Things I can do in the actual solve or deliberate practice drills)

I'm trying to increase my success rate right now in safety solves where I go much slower than normal, as this is what I plan to do to try and get NR mean. My errors include exec errors and just being off by some random pieces, and I can't really check my DNFs since I don't record my solves(might try to find a way to do this). I don't have much problem with recalling memo, but it's possible that some letter pairs are dropping out of my memo when I'm solving.

I've also heard about sighted solves, how would I be able to use these to increase my success rate? If anybody has any tips that would be great!

You can plug in the scramble and your memo to this site (after configuring your letter scheme, etc.) and see what the cube would look like. This helps determine what went wrong and whether it was a memo mistake (if the result matches your physical cube) or an exec mistake (if the result is solved).

If you're making exec mistakes mostly, then using this to generate memo for you and then executing a single piece type and making sure you do it right - if not, identify exactly what went wrong (without the hassle of memorizing an entire cube, doing an entire solve, and figuring out what piece type went wrong - an easier version of sighted solves).

Dudefaceguy uses some interesting 4-move commutators for QTPI method that do two 3-cycles at once. Stuff like 2R 2U 2R' 2U' or 2R2 2U 2R2 2U'. So I thought, what if you did centers for big blind using these commutators? You'd basically be doing two instances of 3-style at the same time, using two different buffers. Here's a non-optimized example solve on 4x4 centers using the Speffz letter scheme:

I want to see a way to streamline written down memo, big BLD exec practice routine to improve flow, exec speed and thinkahead while practising.

Any tips or advice on this topic would be helpful thanks :)

How fast should my centres only memo + exec be?

My understanding is centers is around 18 targets if you choose the right orientation, so it is 9 comms memo and exec, so it should be faster than 3BLD actually, if you can maintain good tracing speed and exec TPS (obviously exec will be slower coz of slice moves)

When counting passes in BLD(2-pass. 3-pass etc.) do you count one 'pass' as a review of every piece type? For example if in 4BLD if you memo corners, memo wings, review wings, review corners, memo centers, review centers then exec centers- wings- corners(what I do on most solves) does that count as 2-passing? What if I memo corners, memo wings, review wings, memo centers then exec centers- wings- corners(what I do on easy scrams), how many passes is that? Also what's a typical pass count for world class solvers in 4BLD and 5BLD, and how many people worldwide can one-pass 4BLD?
