Disproving UF5

@abunickabhi I was wondering about your progress with UF5. Also, what does UF5 stand for?
UF5 means 5 cycles from the UF buffer. It is a method to progress beyond advanced 3-style solving like full floating and full parity.

My progress on UF5 is non existent as I juggle a full time research job and married life. But I do wish to work bit by bit on it as I have a lot of passion to prove or disprove this set yo.

Wow, that sounds complex.

Just keep working on it bit by bit, that's what my plan is for Pokémon. After Highschool I'm going to get my World's invitation for the Pokémon 2026 Worlds in San Francisco. Couldn't attend enough tournaments to get all my placement points to qualify these last few years because of school. But with more time on my hands, it will happen.

Good luck for your pokemon work!!

Yes it never did, just plain bad planning.
Recently I discovered South Korea implemented 5 year industrialization plans after the war when they were under military dictatorship, and it seems to have been quite successful (the Four Asian Tigers had some degree of state intervention to grow their economies). So I shouldn't have written them off quickly. Albeit now their economy is controlled by a handful of chaebols with an enormous influence over the economy and politics that is way beyond anything in America.

Hmmmm interesting fact.

I guess 5 year planning does work for economics and nation level development.

I find economics too complex to comprehend and draw conclusions.

anyway this point is not related to UF5 so sorry for being off topic.

Also recently Xuanyi has surprised everyone and proved knowing 800+ ZBLL algorithms is entirely doable and may even be better than CFOP. So I wouldn't write off huge algsets the way I previously would
Xuanyi Geng has been coached so wonderfully and it's a wonder that at such a tender age he can produce spectacular ZB solves.

It is also nice to see Yucheng Chen training young kids to excel at MBLD. It's a matter of time before MBLD is dominated by Chinese kids. The method and the grind are easy to scale and give to the young talents.

Also kids in China have good focus built by the environment and the coaches, so I would love to see MBLD dominated by Chinese kids.

Also I think UF5 might not see the end of the tunnel, just like the waterman method or the petrus method. Never getting world class with it, and no widespread adoption and usage of the smaller subset of UF5.

I just spent like 40 minutes going through the entire thread, and oh man how I've seen the change! UF5 still looks pretty viable, but I've never done blind so don't take my word for it. It would just take a lot of time to gen the algs. Also, can't it be done like 2x2 LS or something? Or like ZBLL before China took over? Basically using a portion of the algset (the more easier ones). It might be different for blind so idk if my suggestion makes sense, but yeah keep it up @abunickabhi

Thanks for not being abusive about this algset.

I do not want to get false hopes.

I do not have time to practice and this algset is not viable is the official statement I would say here to invite no hate.

In reality, I love the UF5 algset and it has given a lot of mathematical joy to me. Letter Quads implementation is what I am more proud of tbh.

I was looking at your alg sheet (post#101) why are there 2 different bld notations, what one should I use and get used to??
The singmaster notation is the common one which includes normal Rubik's cube face and slice turns

Yo notation is a way of chunking into 4 letters, and making a mnemonic out of it, for recalling the alg better.

Am I on the right path?

Will letter quads work out and reduce the memorization effort?

With UF5 aid 3-style exec and improve blindsolving?

Yes, yes and yes 😁

I don't have any doubts about this. I am however taking a lot of time to reach there because of the length and breadth of work, and the hectic work life I have.

That being said, please be as skeptical as possible till the results come in. If you are kind, please help contribute! 🤠

There's a handful of reasons you're not seeing it get used.

Using subsets of UF5 is substantially more difficult to implement than subsets of 2x2 LS or ZBLL. Those algsets have relatively small subset sizes. A 72 alg ZBLL set is nothing compared to how many cases there would be in a UF5 subset.

Frequency is also an issue. You'd get UF5 cases incredibly infrequently. It would be a lot of work to make sure you've got your algs practiced and fast to use in 1 out of who knows how many solves.

It's also not fully developed and speed optimized.

Finally, UF5 simply got bad publicity from years of unbased claims and is taken as a joke.

I don't suspect it will ever catch on. But the letter quad idea could def be improved on and implemented.

Thanks for the insights and comments Ryan!

I agree it will never catch on. I learnt a lot of lessons on how and how much and when to communicate because of the western troll and mockery this algset received.

Let's just assume it to be theoretical work and move on with our lives for now. Let's not base any conclusions or make any predictions that will attract unwanted attention and negativity :). Enough mental health and damage has been done by the community on me since 2019, and I need a break.
