Sorry, I didn't check for new posts so I am a bit late
The longest name in the WCA database is 73 characters, and belongs to this individual:
The World Cube Association governs competitions for mechanical puzzles that are operated by twisting groups of pieces, commonly known as 'twisty puzzles'. The most famous of these puzzles is the Rubik's Cube, invented by professor Rubik from Hungary. A selection of these puzzles are chosen as...

2013PAPA03 Athanasios Papastathopoulos-Katsaros (Αθανάσιος Παπασταθόπουλος-Κατσαρός)
from Greece
I agree with
@precompsubwr that the length should only count in one "alphabet".
But what we all can say: he holds the record for the longest entry in the WCA-database for the name.
And in fact he holds the record for "longest part of the name" with 25 characters, but only if you don't divide the name at the "-".
The "longest part of the name" without a double- or triple-name (yes, there is at least one) I found here (23 characters):
2021NARA01 Anuda Narasinghearachchillage
from Australia
For me the longest name is still (it is top with 65 characters if you count the spaces or top with 60 if you don't):
2022FERN06 Weerawarna Kurukulasooriya Busabaduge Thumula Theekshana Fernando
from Sri Lanka
EDIT 2025-08-08: forget about the most below, I did bad-coding and not-checking - Ge Qu is the correct name.
Thanx @xyzzy ! There is now one (or at least as I checked
) with only 3 real characters.
And the shortest name? Seems like it depends on how you count. I found:
2007GEQU01 Ge Q (曲歌) from China
as the first one in the database with 4 or if you don't count the space only 3 characters. There are many others.
In Chinese characters he has only 2 characters. There are really tons of entries with only 2 "character-signs".
