Bingus's progression thread: cubing in the works

OK so I don't really understand if you're having trouble with the concept of setup moves or the actual setup moves, I'll assume the latter since I had trouble with those for OP.

Edges-

U, V, W, X(so all the stickers on the bottom face) you can do a D move to move the piece to X, then do L2.

Example for U- D' L2 (T-perm) L2 D

For targets on the middle layer, you can move them to either L or R using wide moves and do an L' or L to setup. You can also use slice moves instead of wide moves if you prefer.

Example for P- d' L' (T-perm) L d

Example for J- d2 L (T-perm) L' d2

For targets on the bottom layer but not on the bottom face(so the targets are G, K, O and S) you can do a D move to setup to G and then do the setup for G which I will put below.

G- L d L' (T-perm) L d' L'

Example for K- D' (Do everything in G) D

I'll list the others as algs, but you can figure out how they work intuitively.

E- L' d L' (T-perm) L d' L

I- l D' L2 (T-perm) L2 D l'

Q- l' D L2 (T-perm) L2 D' l

A- l2 D' L2 (T-perm) L2 d l2

D- T-perm as it is already set up

C- l2 D L2 (T-perm) L2 D' l2

Corners-

For everything on the bottom face(U, V, W, X) it is just one D move to get it to V.

Example for X- D2 (Swapping alg) D2

For G, K, O and S you can do one D move to G then do G.

G- F' (Swap) F

Example for S- D (Do G) D'

For L, P, T and H you can do one D move to T then do T.

T- R (Swap) R'

Example for L- D2 (do T) D2

I'll list the rest as algs.

I- F R' (Swap) R F'

J- R' (Swap) R

N- R' F (Swap) F' R

B- R2 (Swap) R2

C- F2 D (Swap) D' F2

D- F2 (Swap) F2

I can't guarantee these are perfect, as I don't have a cube on me at the moment. A lot of the algs aren't the best, but work and should be fine for OP.

Tell me if you have any more problems, sorry for the wait but hope this helps!
and I thought 3BLD was easy (apparently I was “blind”)

It is!... well maybe not. That's the easiest method, and I didn't actually explain the concepts and what to do with that information, such as buffers, targets, memorisation and how setup moves work. Then with 3-style there are over 800 commutators you have to learn and the concepts are also really hard. But with OP or M2/OP, pretty much anybody can learn 3BLD with some dedication.

Guys I might have to learn CLL.
I will finish learning L4E, hopefully by the end of the year, and then I will learn CLL or Sarah's advanced.
Also, I said I wanted to learn full PLL by the end of March to get sub 20. 8 months later, I am now sub 16 and still don't know full PLL.
Comp on Saturday! Wish me luck. The 16th of November, to avoid confusion. I will post throughout that day with updates.

Somehow made 2x2 finals

Comp recap: First round of 3x3 went well, I got a couple nice singles and a decent average. Nothing crazy though. 14.92 and 16.36 for clarity
Next was 2x2. I got a 4.34 average, which was about what I was expecting. What I was not expecting was to get into finals.
Pyraminx first round: I did really well. I had one solve where I messed up big-time, but it was fine because I had a counting 5. 6.27 average, which made finals.
3x3 second round. First solve I got a 13. Then a series of really bad solves because I was using my friends cube. Mine apparently had a scratch on it, so it was not competition legal. I couldn't turn fast at all. I got a 17.16 average, which was not good.
Next was 5x5. I got my first ever sub-2 solve, and my first ever sub 2:10 average. Really happy with how it went.
6x6. I had no hopes for this event. I ended up getting a 4:13, which is pretty good for me. The comp was running behind schedule, so they lowered the cutoff from 3:30 to 3:00. My friend was really pissed about this, because he got a 3:22, which would have made cutoff if 5x5 hadn't taken forever.
Pyra finals. So bad. I had one good solve. I messed up on most of them. In part because I had cold hands, in part because I had no warm up, in part because the scrams were garbage. This was a terrible average.
Moving on, 2x2 finals. I did really well. I was so close to getting sub 4 average. I had a pretty bad lockup on the first solve, so if that hadn't happens it could probably be sub 4. 4.06 though, which I am happy with.
Overall this was a really fun comp, had a great time.

I got my first edges only 3 blind attempt success! I had great memo and perfect setup moves. (Thanks @bldcuber314 !) The buffer was at the end of memo, so it was really simple. Time was 3:39
My strat for setup moves is to place my finger on the piece, do the moves, and then swap, undo them, and put it back solved. This way I always know where the piece I'm solving is. So if I were solving A, I would put my finger on A, move it to the buffer )or whatever its called) swap, and move that piece back with my finger.
Other news, I got and 8.17 PB clock single and ao5, 11.53
I got some nice skewb averages, and an 8.00, 7.00 and 6.00 average consecutilvley.

I got a Gan 15, RS3M V5, Yuhu mega, 11x11, lego cube, and periodic table cube for Christmas. I am really conflicted for 3x3 main now.
The options are thus:
FanXin Hudong Light
GAN 15
Moyu RS3M V5

Of course this is really personal preference, but I still would like feedback. I am using the RS3M for OH, and I solved the 11x11 already.

I tried a full 3blind attempt, and it was a DNF. I wasn’t too far off, edge mistrace and forgot corner memo. I also decided for the GAn 15 as a main. I am usin the Hudong for blind, and the RS3M for OH
Great to hear you're doing full attempts now and don't be discouraged by fails!

As an example, when I was trying to get a 5BLD success I spent almost 5 hours over 10 failed attempts before my first success. BLD can be super unforgiving, since (for me) most of the time you end up taking off the blindfold just to see an unsolved cube and wasted effort. A lot of the time even when you have a really good solve that would have been PB by a long shot it's off by just a couple of pieces. But if this happens to you(disclaimer it will) just remember that all of this is worth it, as PBs in BLD are probably some of the best feelings in cubing.

(After I wrote all that it would be funny if you ended up just getting a success on the next attempt)
