Max Park is now sponsored by SCS and not The Cubicle...

heard somewhere that thecubicle had some budget cuts with their non social media sponsorees, makes sense since they once sponsored a bunch of people and then stopped. scs also makes more money than the thecubicle i think since it's geared more towards beginner cubers.

i really don't want the max lubes to go away, they're absolutely goated
TC has went into a wrong direction lately - spending too much on Tingman and over-advertising their random products, and running out of resources to support world class cubers like Max. I was watching Tingman since long time ago, but recently because of TC matter, I don't even bother to watch his new videos. My prediction is that TC is gonna release Kalindu dolls, Kalindu Pencils, Kalindu cube covers, Kalindu notebooks..

I noticed this too... so it wasn't just because the comp was sponsored by SCS (so t-shirt specific for comp?)
I don't think so, because when you look at some of the other competitors that are sponsored by the Cubicle (i.e.Taj Bressert, skewb western champ) they are all wearing Cubicle shirts.

and cubicle prob thinks the contract would be too much money for them and not worth it.
who knows, all speculation.
Yeah, Max isn't really a content creator and isn't big on social media, so it could have been a business decision by Cubicle.

No, never that. If someone is sponsored, they'll show who they are sponsored by, regardless of who the comp is sponsored by.

aaaahhhhh

wow, what a change... I wonder if that explains Tymon and his podcast / youtube videos....

Yea, I mean literally with the money to buy the olor cube you could get, 2 of the Luke garrett cube, any yoo cube, almost matty's gan12 cube, max Park tornado v3, and so much more, any of these cost under the olor cube, she average around 10, these people are world class

An overpriced YouTuber sponsored cube isn't evidence of a "company going in the wrong direction". You are making a lot of assumptions on what has actually happened

Absolutely agree on the content creator part. And it's not like Cubicle is probably asking for crazy social media content, he's not doing a good job, especially with youtube.

Let me give you some examples:
We all know Max Park won world championships 2023. And this took place in August. Guess when he uploaded his solves of his winning average? December....
Wow took so long just to upload 5 solves. And it only has 13k views right now which is extremely low. Even the title is honestly kind of bad imo.
He's titled the video "2023 World Championship KOREA 3x3 FINALS (5.31)"
doesn't even mention that he's the world champion in the title or the thumbnail....

Not uploading a bunch of WR Videos or uploading them weeks/months later
Lots of WR videos he's never uploaded or he uploads super late. When the WR kind of "loses" a bit of its "hype."

Now compare this with Tingman, a youtuber with over 1 million subscribers.
More views and attention (especially with shorts) giving The Cubicle more reach
And Tingman actually plugs the cubicle in the youtube videos, not just puts it in the description type thing.
Max Park doesn't have as much of a reach. You can argue otherwise, 3.13 WR, Netflix documentary, and being well respected in the community as a world class cuber. But does that really matter?
1st I want to talk about Netflix documentary and 3.13 world record. The hype has gone down, people who got into cubing from it have already done so. There is not much additional benefit from it anymore.
2nd I want to talk about him being respected as a world class cuber. Most of these are cubers, who have already picked a cube store as their favorite and regularly order from there, or order from both stores regularly.

Also I want to mention this, cubicle probably also realized the rubik's sponsorship was also a bit of a hinderance. Take a look at the Max Park setup which they had. They made it for a bunch of different cubes. Which you might think what's wrong? More cubes = more chance at money right? I actually disagree here, they could have made a "world record' edition cube with the tv3 which would 100% be better for sales (and if they want to keep the other cubes with setup, I guess they could) but they prob couldn't do it due to Max's rubik's sponsorship. The Cubicle can't have a World record/world class main premium speedcube with Max Park like they do with other sponsorees such as Tymon, Tommy, Matty, etc. Take a look at Tymon's videos, the cube he uses with Cubicle setup is linked in the bio.

Lastly I want to talk about something mentioned, which is a bit off topic to the rest of what I've talked about, which is Tingman cubes being "expensive." Not to defend Tingman/The Cubicle, but almost every youtuber product is "expensive." That's just sadly the way things work.

To be fair SCS has been stocking nanoblocks and model kits. Still like both cube stores though.

Surprised they changed. He'd been sponsored by Cubicle for years.

Business decision by his parents? SCS made a better offer? A falling out with Cubicle?

Gratz to Max on the WRs.
Gratz to @camcuber for signing him.
Thank you very much!
Yep, I always thought that was the wrong direction.
You're a cube store, stick to cubing.
Still like both cube stores though.
Cubing has been and will always remain my focus. I started SpeedCubeShop ultimately because of my passion for cubing. I have always enjoyed model kits, etc., and I do not think the crossover is far-reach. I have seen several orders for cubes and model kits/nanoblocks which is cool to see! I have also noticed that some stores sell different types of puzzles that are not "twisty puzzles" or cubes, which feels similar to me.

I am always very open to feedback, so if anybody wants to DM me, my inbox is always open!

Speak for yourself. I enjoy having options at the stores, when they sell stuff like klotski puzzles and stuff that everyone would agree aren't twisty puzzles.

I'm assuming that they will discontinue them under the "MAX" name and rebrand them, same with the premium cubes.
The MAX lubes and the MAX premium cubes are all on sale right now at a pretty steep discount, so I’m assuming that they are trying to get rid of stock and potentially discontinue the MAX lineup

Wow, I never made the connection between the MAX premium line and Max Park. I prefer to setup my own cubes anyway, so I'd never click on those cubes let alone buy them, but they could have done a better job of making it clear that it was a MAX Park cube rather than a MAXimum speed or MAXimum performance cube.

If you look at the product description for the MAX Lubes, You will see that they say, "Endorsed by Pro Speedcuber Max Park".
