Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

can we do something about the sus addvertiseents for dating websites (sorry if this has already been said but it must end lol)
I don't think we can 100% stop hackers. If an account does not have a strong password, there isn't anything we can do. However, the fact that ther are 9-10 year olds on this site means that Po®* sites advertised is a big problem.

@pjk I think that there should be an Off-Topic subforum dedicated to music.
Alot of the cubers on this site are also musicians and composers, but Off-Topic is rarely used. Plus, having a ton of threads about music scattered isn't helpful.
You can just make an off topic thread about music??? This is a forum for cubers, the mods are not obligated in any way to create forums about other things you think are related to cubing

That's not what I meant. :( I was just proposing an idea on this thread.
Yeah, sorry my post came off a little aggressive. All I’m trying to say is that the moderators have more important things to do than add sub forums for things that could have their own thread. Or you can just join a music forum 🤷‍♂️

a LITTLE aggressive?!
I guess this is partially my fault, I don't think I was clear enough in my original post. I was just pointing out that music is similar interest to a lot of cubers.
Maybe just merging some of the music threads so there aren't so many is a better idea, Ididn't mean that the mods needed to make a big forum.

I found Runningforcube's post fairly not aggressive but that might just be me.

Sorry, I didn't see this part of your original post the first time around. I think that multiple threads shouldn't exist and there should only be one thread dedicated to musical cubers. This of course comes with the fact that some of these threads might be forgotten about and instead of giving a very old thread a bump there should be a new one. But as my original post said the moderators already have their own lives to attend to and many other things to moderate, (especially with certain behaviors and scams going around) that something big like creating a sub-forum for musical cubers isn't necessary when a thread can be talked in. For example, the running cubers thread is actively used and is practically the only one I see used, and works perfectly. Maybe we could even have a different thread for different genres of music, as a huge music fan myself (even looking to pivot my YouTube channel in that direction) I think that would be great.

I just didn't like how quickly it escalated. @Running for cube I think you could have phrased your response better, tbh
As I said, I don't exactly love how my original post was worded either. I just found your proposal unnecessary and should have thought more before I posted. That's my fault and I apologize for it. But like Arcanist said I don't think my post was too aggressive, just a little on the aggressive side to an unneeded amount.

Oh no, a child might happen to see a naked person of their own volition; the horror!

It's a problem regardless of whether porn is involved. Moderation might be somewhat understaffed. (I am, technically, a mod, but only for the puzzle theory section which almost nobody posts in anyway; I cannot do anything to posts elsewhere on the forum.)

Are you shrugging off the scientific research done on the negative effects of po*n addiction to the brain? It’s really a serious topic and shouldn’t be taken so lightly.

Yeah, I am. Sue me. Being exposed to graphic content once isn't going to immediately transform you into a sex addict.

You can legitimately worry about this if there are constant spam posts with adult material that are not cleaned up timely, but one or two isolated incidents is a nothingburger. Besides, the only action that can be taken to meaningfully improve the situation is to beef up moderation (the spammers aren't going to stop using porn just because it upsets you), which… helps with the spam problem regardless of whether it involves adult material?

Just like peer pressure to do a drug, being exposed to inappropriate content or a few times could get someone hooked, especially on the young mischievous mind.

Personally, it doesn’t affect me as I don’t care to watch it, but surely this happening multiple times and the thread getting posted in multiple times will get kids curious and have them look it up themselves

I just spent several minutes looking through scientific studies on how people get hooked on this type of content and found nothing helpful. But another point I have to bring up is that us stating that we don’t like the posting of this content isn’t going to increase it, as the bots don’t look through the forum anyway. But bringing it up in this thread could maybe implement policies like reminders to activate 2fa or more moderators getting hired and such.

The main point of my origjnal post wasn't as much make a new forum than just clean up that area. Perhaps I should have made it clearer.
Also, if a post has an unnecessary amount of aggression, that is still "too" aggressive to a certain extent. I will say again, the escalation was innapropriate.
And I wasn't trying to force the mods to do anything. I was simply expressing an idea on this thread, which I have a right to do. I don't care how many 'eyes up' reactions this post gets. Also, the mods have a right to refuse my idea, which THEY can decide.
