Should clock be an official event?

If clonk wasn't already an event, I definitely wouldn't add it. But now that so many people practice it (and it's quite competitive), I wouldn't take it away. Yes, I completely agree that events should be added (FTO, CH2, MPyra, and more), but clonk doesn't need to be taken away.

I agree with this, I think it's unfair to remove it now that it has been developed and a lot of people practice and main it as an event. However, I also don't think it made sense to add it in the first place, even if it is a Rubik's puzzle.

I hate clock, I've solved it once, I'll never touch it again. It's almost as mundane as magic! The solve is based solely on the ability to do moves quick, not think. There are so many more puzzles out there that deserve a spot in the WCA. If they got one, guess what!? Companies would start making better versions! FTO, Helicopter, Gigaminx, hell, even the Tuttminx!

Get rid of the futile solves and bring in some puzzles that actually require some thought and input a bit of challenge.

Magic is the same solution every time, and certainly cannot be compared to clock. You can solve a clock pretty easily with Pochmann's method, but you're not going to be fast without move optimization. Pattern recognition becomes important as you get faster, and new noflip methods even fully implement calculations.

Additionally, isn't the ability to perform moves quick an integral part of speedsolving anything? I do also believe one must think in order to solve the puzzle, as aimlessly spinning the clock's dials certainly won't get you anywhere. You don't have to like clock at all, but I believe calling the entire puzzle redundant is exceptionally false.

i think it was because no-one was competing in it.

edit: im gonna transition back into clock. afaik people do compete in clock, so i don’t think that’s much of a concern with keeping the event official

While Hygiene was a concern, I think the main reason was just lack of participation as finger go brr is saying. I think organizational issues was another major reason.
