[WR] Yiheng Wang 0.93 2x2 average

Trouble in WR land?
According to a post on Reddit, Yiheng's avg could possibly be changed to 1.10.

He got an extra attempt for the 5th solve, because the judge supposedly lifted the cover early before he was ready.
Normal to ask for and get an extra for that.
But.... He didn't ask for an extra when it happened. He went ahead and did the solve, got a 1.37. That would have given him a 1.10 avg.
Then he asked for the extra.

Regulation 11e)
11e) The WCA Delegate may grant a competitor an extra attempt to replace an attempt affected by an incident. The competitor should appeal verbally or in writing to the judge and WCA Delegate at the time of the incident, before finishing the original attempt, to be eligible for an extra attempt. An appeal does not guarantee the competitor an extra attempt.
and 11e3)
11e3) If it is unclear whether an incident should result in an extra attempt, the competitor may be granted a provisional extra attempt that will be used only if it is later found that an extra attempt was appropriate (e.g. by a decision of the WRC).
and Guideline 11e+++)
11e+++) RECOMMENDATION The WCA Delegate should use stronger discretion when granting an extra attempt after the solve is finished. The extra attempt should be granted only in exceptional circumstances.

WRT and WRC are reviewing it. The extra could be considered provisional and ruled as unnecessary since he didn't ask for it before completing the solve. If so, bye, bye WR.

We can hope that doesn't happen, but there is the possibility.

(edited to emphasize a key portion of the reg.)

I just realized something else.
Look at the video when they showed the scorecard. He didn't sign that original 5th attempt.
If they rule the extra was unnecessary, and the original 5th attempt stands, they could also rule the original 5th attempt is a DNF because he didn't sign it.
In that case the 1.90 fourth attempt would count and that would give him a 1.27 avg, not a 1.10.

Dude this will make the community explode.
This kinda sucks to see, but I guess what happens, happens.

I hope it does happen, tbh.

There's a recurring pattern of top Chinese cubers selectively choosing to ask for extras to farm for records, which is a clear violation of sportsmanship.

(But should the extra be revoked (I do not have faith that WCA will make the right decision here), the original solve should stand, even if it technically hadn't been signed for. This would count as a procedural mistake on the judges' and delegates' part; it is also unfair to penalise the competitor for that.)

My reaction to sub 1 avg

bro are u happy that we got a sub1 avg? I think every1 here just wants zayn to get it And they are all cribbing that someone faster got it.
This is such a bizarre response. I don't care about 2×2×2. Whether it's Yiheng or Zayn or whoever else who gets the record, cool, good for them?

A sub-1 average would be impressive if it was obtained legitimately. Yiheng got his in a way that (pretty much) doubled his chances at WR; do you honestly think he would have requested for an extra if the original 5th solve was already good enough for WR?

Even if this result is disqualified, I'm sure he'll get a real sub-1 average in due time. That would be more worthy of respect, when it happens.
