[WR] Yiheng Wang 0.83 2x2 Average

That's why I think the WCA should require WR/CR solves to be filmed to be certified. Unlike 15-20 years ago, pretty much everyone (competitor, friend, parent) has a phone or recording device nowadays, and record holders should be held to a realistically more stringent standard. Having a WR (not including FMC obviously which isn't a speed event) not on video would be highly suspicious. We almost had that situation with the Yusheng Du 3.47. That would've been a disaster and a lingering suspicion for years.
I think this is a viable solution, but there are some problems that stick out to me.
The first is that there may be poorer areas of the world where not everyone has a phone or camera. Practically I don't know how big of a problem this would be.
The second is that there could be some edge cases that feel weird. Imagine if someone was recording but their camera died right before the solve (I believe this has happened before in relatively high-profile cases). Let's imagine it's Yufang Du. If he gets a 3.05 3x3 single, it would then not count, but what would the solve be? DNF? What if he had gotten 3.06, which is not even NR for him since he's from China. Presumably it would count normally even thought there's no video. But if it was Tymon, would the solve be DNF'd unless it was slower than 3.66? Obviously this is very contrived, but it is true that if there were factors out of the competitor's control that prevented the solve from being filmed, it would be better in some cases to get slower times, which is a result that doesn't sit well with me.
Here are some other edge cases I thought of: What if someone filmed it, but the video got accidentally deleted or lost? What if someone accidentally blocked a parent's view to the competitor at the moment he started the timer? This reminds me of that time Feliks was recording Jayden's 4x4 solve. There was a timer malfunction but since Feliks was zoomed in on someone's hair, he didn't capture it on video. In theory, what if Jayden had gotten a record on that solve? Would it be DNF'd because there's no video proof that he didn't slide?

That's true. I'm not familiar with the Chinese cubing community, but my intuition is that if his family asked that he not be filmed, it's not impossible that people would respect that. Again, obviously not the best thing to do, but is the WCA going to ban/penalize him for doing that?
In general, between sliding and misscrambles, it seems like the number of incidents that have happened means there's a non-negligible advantage to not having your solves on camera, which is a pretty perverse incentive.
The reason why I said what I said, it's because it happened with a competitor recently, I won't say his name, but the delegates were skeptical about his times being too fast, so they started recording him on the live stream of the comp, even tho the competitor stated to not do that because he will have nerves, but they still did it, and well they found out he was cheating and DNF'ed all of his solves for the fast events
So really, if the delegates think there's something going on, they can record even without their consent to make the speedcubing more fair (or whatever bs they want to do atp)

Realistically, a record comes from someone who is already a top solver and has a camera. If you look at the top 100 or even 1000 solvers, none of them come from a third world country that is so poor as to not have cell phones.

Would it be DNF'd because there's no video proof that he didn't slide?
In that particular situation, sliding has only ever been a problem on 2x2.

This is unfortunate but I think the integrity of the record is worth this risk. If Yufang Du really got a 3.05 not on video, there will be a cloud of suspicion forever.

Maybe I will open a topic on it separately.
