I don't think it's even legal to bet money on minors doing sports in large parts of the world.

The exact thing I thought someone would say before I checked this thread lolExplode, as in absolutely destroy? Yeah, this should work.
Exactly, look at cricket, it used to be such a wonderful sport, but then betting came along and ruined it.Horrific idea, it won't "grow" the community, just continue the trend of turning everything into a business sucking the soul out of everything. Gambling is a terrible thing and it would be a huge mistake to center our hobby around something like that
how about polls, no money, just votingI found a way to make the cubing community EXPLODE in popularity, but it may not be the best/most favorable way.
Betting. It’ll 100% increase the amount of people that care about cubing. It may be strange to bet on an 8 year old, but I feel like it’s not the worst idea.
Idk, has cube betting ever been thought of before? Do you think it’s a good or bad idea? I feel like, if implemented right, it would be AMAZING. That could also make it so there is a higher prize pool at bigger comps like nats and worlds, and people could live on cubing from comp wins alone.
People want to make kids gambleWhat is this thread
Idk, went from gambling, to space, to gambling againWhat is this thread
I don’t think it’s a good idea. And it’s not like kids would be able to gamble. Im just saying it would 100% grow the communityPeople want to make kids gamble
It would grow a very bad community. If the kids can't gamble, but they're getting bet on, this makes no senseI don’t think it’s a good idea. And it’s not like kids would be able to gamble. Im just saying it would 100% grow the community
I was thinking it was more for only top cubers (like finals at worlds or nats) or something like that. Or completely separate this from the WCA. Like have a league like monkey league where it’s only top cubers. (That’s how I was thinking about it when I wrote the thread)It would grow a very bad community. If the kids can't gamble, but they're getting bet on, this makes no sense
It might also ruin the community, because parents don't want their kids exposed to gambling
If this was completely separate from the WCA, with only people that were okay with being bet on, this could work. The only issue is, it would attract gamblers instead of cubers, and it wouldn't really be cubing anymore.I was thinking it was more for only top cubers (like finals at worlds or nats) or something like that. I know it sounds like I want this idea. I don’t, but I was just thinking about if something like this were to be implemented, how would it work?
I know it’s a bad idea, I would think it’s a bad idea if it was actually implemented. But I feel like there would be a way that it could be added that doesn’t seem bad. (Like betting on kids, people that no one knows about, etc…)

Yeah probably, I just want this thread deletedI think you both vastly overestimate the amount this will grow the cubing community and vastly underestimate how bad this would be for the cubing community
and video games could be played on diffrent gravities, and there could be new categories such as MOON-SM64 ANY%It's fine if you are "betting" (without money) on records or something, but there shouldn't be a way to gamble and make money off of who will win competitions. Like @randomspeedcuber2023 said, it's not a gambling sport, and this would ruin competitions and make it way too competitive.
If NASA hosted speedcubing competitions on the Moon or Mars it would be cool, and there could be Moon WRs and Mars WRs.
