The "Yusheng Du" situation

I got a 5 while averaging 13 3x3. I got a 1 while averaging 7 pyra.
Aren’t you the same guy with the “sorry for faking solves thread” guy?
This thread is just flexing fake solves and bad hand scrambles

Honestly I think it’s another Yusheng Du situation. Talented enough guy, great scramble, perfect execution. I like these situations a lot, it lets cubers who never get the chance of being world class a good bit of popularity.

the title of this thread made me think yusheng did something horrible

anyway, i got some good official pyraminx singles (a few 5s and a 4) back when i averaged, like, 10. i've also had the opposite, where one of my single ranks was much worse than my average rank. just look at my 2x2 ranks in this old screenshot

Yusheng Du had a 7 average at the time
His PR average was indeed 7.x at the time, but a quick glance at his results reveals two things:
1. He goes to a lot of comps. Naturally, that's also a lot of opportunities to break records.
2. His "global" average was more like 8-9 seconds (at the time).

Also, I think he was only unknown to the non-Chinese-speaking community. I might be remembering wrongly, but wasn't he already sponsored by Moyu before he even got the WR single?

Using a yearly time inflation rate of 1.038, a 7.43 ao5, his pr average before the WR single, would be about 6.17 today, quite a good time today, so I would imagine 7.43 would be a respectable time back in 2018.

basically the same situation still
Not really, square 1 only has combinations in the billions iirc while 3x3 has 43 quintillion. Lucky scrambles are far more common on sq-1, WB I believe is 1.64. The scram was just a PBL. With the right scramble, I could see Thom getting a 4.06. I does depend on the scram though. WCA regs require a minimum of 11 slices for each scram, so if he got his scramble from a place that does not replicate TNoodle, that could be a way for the solve to be illegitimate. If the scram was from CStimer though, it should be good.

with an avg of 17, i just do not see how that would be possible. its like if you avg 12 for 3x3 and got a 4.high

Square 1 and 3x3 are different puzzles. You can get far more lucky with square 1 singles. That being said, @Thom S. , it would be nice to see the scramble so we can see how lucky it is.

Du got his 3.47s WR solve when he averaged about 6s... and the scramble for that round only had 16 moves (acc'ing to Ruwix.com) ...

also worth checking out J Perm's video avkut the solve and reconstruction... it was a great solve super elegant yo

I got a two 6s when averaging 12

So, I've found the scramble in my timer.

(1,0) / (2,-4) / (-5,1) / (-4,-1) / (-2,-2) / (-1,0) / (6,0) / (6,0) / (-2,0) / (0,-3)

The Timer says I archieved this in early 2018, and correction, it's a 5.07, not a 4.07. My mistake, honest mistake. Been cubing for longer than some of you have been alive, so I'll remember some things wrongly sometimes.

Nice scramble. I got a 15.94 on it, which would be a new all-time personal best for me if I were willing to count it (which I'm not, since I knew it was easy). :-)
That was an awfully lucky scramble. I think it's not unreasonable to think a 5.07 on it might be possible for someone averaging 17.
