You should learn Yau for 4x4, it’s much faster than Redux 4, because of 3 reasons:I want some advice for cubing. I want to average sub 20 on 3x3, sub 4 on 2x2, sub 2:00 on 4x4, sub 8 on pyra, and sub 10 on skewb. I don't really care about OH or clock, but if you have good advice, please tell me. I would love to hear the amazing recommendations that the pro and average cubers have for a beginner speedcuber like me. I average 6 on 2x2, 31 on 3x3, 2:30 on 4x4, 10 on pyra, 23 on skewb, 1:45 on OH, and 30 on clock.
My methods:
2x2:Ortega
3x3: Beginners F2L and 4LLL
4x4: Redux
Pyra:LBL
Skewb: Beginners w/ no finger tricks
OH: See respective event
Clock: Beginners
Thank you,
Vincent F.
1. When you finish pairing edges, you can skip cross
2. There’s 3-2-3 edge pairing for Yau 4, and it’s insane, probably better than freeslice in 4x4, actually, freeslice it’s very useful in bigger cubes, but 4x4 just has 2 pieces in each edge, so that’s why 3-2-3 edge pairing is good
3. Better look ahead, you can find pieces easier cuz it’s all on the up face or the sides, not the bottom like redux, and it’s getting easy in edges for 4x4
Yau just has one disadvantage if compare with redux, that it’s the Last 4 Centers, you have to be used to move the unsolved cross edge with the f layer you want to turn, and it will be easy if you practice non timer efficiently
For 3x3, you can sub 30 if you learn full PLL, faster recognition and fast turning (the finger tricks are easy)
I don’t have any idea for OH, but you can learn to turn faster at OH in J Perm:
