I want some advice for cubing. I want to average sub 20 on 3x3, sub 4 on 2x2, sub 2:00 on 4x4, sub 8 on pyra, and sub 10 on skewb. I don't really care about OH or clock, but if you have good advice, please tell me. I would love to hear the amazing recommendations that the pro and average cubers have for a beginner speedcuber like me. I average 6 on 2x2, 31 on 3x3, 2:30 on 4x4, 10 on pyra, 23 on skewb, 1:45 on OH, and 30 on clock.
My methods:
2x2:Ortega
3x3: Beginners F2L and 4LLL
4x4: Redux
Pyra:LBL
Skewb: Beginners w/ no finger tricks
OH: See respective event
Clock: Beginners

Thank you,
Vincent F.

Learn full OLL and PLL. And yes, full OLL is worth it.

Try doing F2L slowly while looking ahead to the next pair. Solve each pair while at the same time looking ahead and tracking the next F2L pair. Don't look at the current pair as you're in the process of solving it.

A separate drill to try is to look at each pair, then solve it with your eyes closed as fast as you can. That will help you be able to keep your eyes off the current pair and be able to lookahead.

J Perm on YouTube has some great videos on how to be sub-30 and on advanced F2L. The advanced F2L one is especially helpful. Best of luck on reaching your goals!

for skewb learn sara intermediate and the sledge hammer fingertrick. you can get sub 6 easily

For Clock, you can get sub-10 easily if you learn pin order, learn about to recognize and take advantage of skips, and then after knowing this, it is just practice.

For 4x4, learn the Yau method and practice. The main issue for you is that you don't probably don't know how to lookahead (since you are not sub-20 on 3x3, and being sub-20 on 3x3 is the best time to learn how to lookahead) and being able to lookahead is crucial for big cubes.

Any tips on memorizing algs? I have learned a grand total of 0 algs since I said I am almost done learning pll. I have all g’s except for gd, nb and the r’s. Also, will learning PLL make me sub 30? Thanks.

This is what I usually do

1. Find an alg that’s ergonomic/feels effective
2. Do it a few times until I feel like I can do it without looking at the notation (try to remember triggers like R U R’ U’)
3. Do that until I feel satisfied (usually getting 10 successes in a row)
4. Start doing the alg without looking until I’m able to do it somewhat fast
5. Then do an ao50 or ao100 and try to implement the alg into my solves.

Results may vary but that’s what I do.

Honestly just learn more algs to be able to learn algs faster. I'm now at a point where for many algs I can just do them once with looking at the notation and I know the alg already. This only doesn't work for very non intuitive algs, which I learn by muscle memory. The hardest part with learning algs for me is knowing which alg belongs to which case, but that is generally not very hard unless I learn too many algs at the same time.

it has a really easy white face which solves the layer and then anti sune then pbl skip

just downsolved to 2.59 :)

can @pjk move this to the progression section?
I have it in general speedcubing discussion right now
