There are so many algorithms that maybe it would be a better use of the time to practice other aspects. It would take too long to memorize every single one of them.

Can u link that thread? As a ZZ user who formerly used CFOP, it's definitely worth it. I'd recommend searching up Mark Boyanowski's thread that talks about which algs saved you the most moves compared to 2-Look OLL.
Wait, Mark has done some work in improving OLL learning? As a ZZ user who formerly used CFOP, it's definitely worth it. I'd recommend searching up Mark Boyanowski's thread that talks about which algs saved you the most moves compared to 2-Look OLL.
My mistake, seems like it was another member on here named Mark. I saw his profile picture of doing MBLD and assumed it was Mark Boyanowski.Wait, Mark has done some work in improving OLL learning?
I thought he was a BLDer and FMCer only.
I've been looking, but I can't seem to find it. Incase anyone wants to dig around more, it was posted by mark49152 in 2013 ish. I know someone bumped it rather recently, within the last few weeks I believe, but I couldn't see it among those posts. Can u link that thread?
Cross and F2L are certainly better areas to improve on initially (with more impacts on time) but full OLL will eventually be necessary as you get faster. 50 algs sound like a lot but you'll get them down eventuallyThere are so many algorithms that maybe it would be a better use of the time to practice other aspects. Here you go, I only found it because I had it bookmarked, lol.I've been looking, but I can't seem to find it. Incase anyone wants to dig around more, it was posted by mark49152 in 2013 ish. When and how to move from 2-look to 1-look OLL
EDIT: Having come back and looked at this three years later, it is clearly over-complicated, probably because I spent so long immersed in the details when I originally wrote it! :) So, TL;DR version: Here is a list of all the OLL shapes, ordered by the average number of moves they save...www.speedsolving.com
The cool thing about this is that Stealth, Squares, T-Shapes that save you the most moves have some really short and easy algs, most people already know.10.00 Stealth
8.50 Squares
8.13 Dots (1/54)
7.50 T shapes
7.31 Small lightning bolts
6.67 P shapes
6.00 Kites
5.88 C shapes
5.58 L shapes
5.56 Knight moves
5.38 Fishes (excluding kites)
5.25 Big lightning bolts
