Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

I feel that that the "similar threads" section encourages bumping somehow, and should be mentioned on the rule, together with explicit reasons and examples of cases of what is right and wrong in cases of bump, for users education.

the current rule is kinda vague and i think it doesn't include sufficient cases to elucidate the view of the mods on the subject
On the contrary, I feel like this is more a community problem than a rules problem.

1. Some guy bumps an old thread for no good reason (e.g. replying to a question by someone who stopped visiting the forum years ago, or trying to get a longest bump record).
2. People reply to complain about the bump (instead of reporting the post).
3. Other people see this response and incorrectly assume that this is the way to respond to all sorts of long bumps, regardless of merit.
4. Some other poster does a legitimate bump.
5. People complain about the bump, wrongly.
6. We complain about people wrongfully complaining about bumps.
7. I complain that your complaint about people wrongfully complaining about bumps is misguided

No amount of detailed rules will prevent people from misunderstanding why we complain about bad bumps, because people don't read the rules.

I guess a guideline for deciding whether a bump is useful could be: if someone stumbles upon the thread 5 years later, are they going to find that post useful?

there is no excuse to not reading the rules

I'm simply requesting a clearer explanation of the rule

I'm not saying people shouldn't read the rules, but the reality is that you cannot expect people to fully read the rules before posting. (Also, the forum rules are hidden behind an extended menu (the "More" dropdown at the top), while the "Terms and rules" link in the footer goes to a different set of rules…)

There is some benefit to leaving a bit of ambiguity in the rules; it makes it easier for moderators to apply their best judgment on a case-by-case basis, rather than rigidly following rules that say they have to ban X or hand out infractions for Y, etc. That said, I also think rules 2c and 1d already cover the situation you brought up:

1. Be Civil, Be Respectful
[…]
d. Regarding Backseat Moderation
If you notice someone breaking the rules, kindly tell inform them of the rules, and do it tactfully. If someone has already informed them, do not point it out again. Report the offending post if you must, but do not flame the poster; remember that notes about pointing out etiquette and rule violations are usually etiquette and rule violations themselves. Try to help other members, not hurt them.

[…]

2. Stay on Topic
[…]
c. Worthless Replying
Don’t reply to a post unless you have something of value to add to it. Replying with “+1” or “go search for it” is not allowed, as it does no good for the topic creator or the community. If you see this behavior and would like to respond to it, see: 1e. “Regarding Backseat Moderation”.

For some reason on my accomplishments page, I entered my megaminx pb single as 01:58.04, but it shows up as 01:58.40, I've tried redoing it several times, and even waited for like an hour before retrying, but it keeps entering as 01:58.40 My accomplishment page has always worked before. And my megaminx times to.

i didnt see the millisecond swap at first. This is very weird.

New addition to members page: most followers. I think this would be cool because it would add more meaning to follows and show some of the more popular members of the community for newcomers and veterans alike.

Pros-

-More meaning to follows.
-More incentive to make high-quality posts.
-Recognition of more popular members.

Cons-

-Could make the forums more like yt, Tik tok, etc. with people fishing for follows.
-Could make the forums a little more salty.

I personally think this would be a cool idea, let me know what you think! @pjk @Mike Hughey

Currently, my official results page says that my MBLD PR is 126723:38.00, where it should be 24/25 56:58. I've seen the same weird thing happening at other official results pages, for example Graham Siggins supposedly has a PR of 66724:27.02. FMC results are also weird sometimes (I believe only for single though, FMC mean seems OK).
I think it would be helpful if this was fixed.

Can you guys edit the wiki?

I'm trying to recover my wiki account but the email with the code never arrives : (

it doesn't arrive on spam or anything, just doesn't arrive at all

it seem to be broken, or is just me?

I feel that following is a useless function for a reason. It adds nothing to the forums and shouldn't add anything

- The member that follows more members than any other user

Yeah, but if it did mean something, then maybe you would only follow people you really want to.

We had some issues with the email recently which got resolved. Please DM me your wiki username if you're having issues and describe the issue and I'll try to fix it. Thanks for reporting.
