Hello, I am a new-ish cuber. I know how to solve a megaminx but I am extremely (yes, very, very, very, extremely) slow. I do the cross and then intuitive f2l for the first couple of layers. For the part of the solve where you make triplets of pieces with one corner and two edges, I do a beginner's method alg (this is where I need improvement the most. I am not sure how to efficiently do this part of the solve). I do intuitive f2l for the second-to-last laer and the corners of the layer below it, and then for the last layer I use the beginner's method (I know I should change this part 😂). I am looking for help and tips on how I can effectively solve the megaminx (if this helps at all, I average 30-33 seconds on a 3x3).

I appreciate you reading this and I will take absolutely any advice given to me.

Edit: does anyone have recommendations for a megaminx that would suit a beginner like me?

I'm at the same point like you. I just started the Megaminx and still have some problems getting fast at it.
I build F2L Pairs wherever I bring the pieces together but especially at the beginning (F2L Phase) it takes me too long to move them across the whole cube.

For last layer i also use the beginners method, but compared to the rest of the solve, I don't lose that much time there to learn a lot of new algs.

Have you already seen the Videos bei Feliks and JPerm?

You talk about triplets. Do you use the Balint Method where you do triplets for all colors? I tried this but I prefer the westlund method where you build 3 adjecent colors to the white and only do Edge-Corner-Edge Triplet for the last 2 Colors.
Feliks has some videos about the different methods in his intermediate block

I appreciate the help! I will definitely check out those videos.

ok so
something that you can do is learn 4lll I recommend learning it in this order EP - CP - EO - CO then you practice those algs, also something else that you can do is that you can start your S2L with the same color all of the time (mine is red but you can choose whatever you want), somthing else is that even though full OLL and PLL on the megaminx is about 300 algs you can convert some from the 3x3 so that you don't have to learn anything new but a lot of it really comes down to practice and hundreds of solves

Thank you so much! I will definitely try this!

I found this very helpful on getting faster on megaminx
I don't really like this tutorial because it's basically just saying the begginers method for the last layer (excepts for EP) insted of telling you the algs for it

Cool. Last Layer didn't have priority for me but I've learned that I can use Y-Perm instead of double J-Perm and also the R2 U2 R2' U R2 U2 R2' and R2 U2' R2' U' R2 U2' R2' instead of T-Perm is easy to learn and fast to execute
I actually used sune and anti-sune before watching this tutorial

What you average on 3x3 doesn't correlate with what you average on mega. For example, I average sub-11 and prob average under a minute for mega. The quality of the mega solves + the speed that I allow myself to have whilst doing lookahead is how I got there.
On www.thecubeskills.com, you can find a megaminx tutorial series that teaches how to solve a mega, how to get faster, methods for solving S2L (Yu Da-Hyun, Westlund, or Balint), and techniques on how to get faster. It also has a good guide on 4LLL.
When doing megaminx in general, you want to be mostly doing solves without the timer. This way, you don't have the pressure of timing yourself, and it allows you to find new stuff with the mega.
As for a good mega, the YJ Yuhu Megaminx V2 will be your best friend. I would recommend getting the black side, although do not switch grey with black right away. If you do find that the grey side makes it harder to determine cases, however, then do switch the colors. It might take some effort, but it's not that hard to do.
