which set of PBL diag swap algs are better? I think they're about the same

R U' R' U' F2 U' R U R' U F2
z2 R U' R' U' F2 U' R U R' U R2 B2 (end result flips U and D faces)

OR

R U' R' U' F2 U' R U R' D R2
x2 R U' R' U' F2 U' R U R' D F2 R2
(requires D move soft regrip which basically takes no time)

I feel like I asked this already, but are there any better algs for PBL one bar on bottom than the variants of R U' R F2 R' U R' like R D' R B2 R' D R' and R' D R' F2 R D' R?

Bar on back bottom:
R U' F U2 F' U R'
R' U B' U2' B U' R
Bar on front bottom:
R F' R B2 R' F R'
R' F U' R2 U F' R

These algs are all in my PBL doc btw

What is the name of the method that is like Guimond, but combines steps 3 and 4?
I know that the G-FASSST method combines steps 2 and 3 but it just isn't practical with hundreds of algs

I don't think there is a common name for that, but there is also HD-G which is similar and reduces the number of cases.

R U' F U2 F' U R'
How do you finger trick these?
For first one, I imagine starting regrip with right thumb on bottom, right index F, left U2, right thumb F', drag U, then rest is finished with right hand?

R' F U' R2 U F' R
The most reliable way I can do it is with a regrip for the execution as R2', then right thumb for F'.
This is a bar on back bottom case, not front btw. https://alg.cubing.net/?puzzle=2x2x2&alg=_R-_F_U-_R2_U_F-_R&type=alg

I just use the squan alg for NJ. R2 U R2' U' R2 U R2' U' R2. I'd only do this if you have really fast R2's, but after doing squan for so long I can execute it extremely quickly. BTW you can also swap U for U' and U' for U if that's faster for you or to avoid AUF.

oh yeah I was gonna ask about doing cube rotation + that alg. I call it the spam RU alg but even after practicing the shorter algs for a while the spammy one is still faster for me.

If you wanna avoid a rotation all together you can kind of cheese it in a way where you use an L2 to get the bar on the right later

Like a setup. If the bar is in the UFL and UBL slots and you want them in the DBL and DFL slots, just do an L2
oh. well I already have algs for bars on the upper layer that I'm pretty good at. So I guess I could do the opposite and turn bottom layer cases into top layer cases, but I don't think that is worth it in terms of setup

You do both from home grip and the F moves like D moves

Why is ortega considered a separate method, since it is basically kociemba's algorithm, because it solves two opposite sides, which is identical to domino reduction and then solves everything afterwards, just like kociemba's algorithm?

Ortega isn't about domino reduction, though. You solve a whole face first (no analogue in domino redux), then orient the opposite face (this is stronger than domino redux, because the two faces are of solid colours rather than possibly being mixed), then solve the rest.

I cant remember if I asked this already, but for variety I like to switch up which 2x2 I use
however since 2x2 is so TPS dependent, is it better for turning if I just stick to one cube I'm comfortable with? I can't think of any argument against that
I believe I am 0.5-1 sec slower on my dayan zhanchi 2x2 than the valk2 just because the old dayan has crappy turning. so maybe I am learning bad turning

In my opinion, yes. Because the Valk is so good, there are no drawbacks that getting used to the cube will exploit. If you want to switch 2x2s, use something better besides the Zhanchi.
