My Cubing Journey

I'm the most indecisive person ever. I think. Well, actually...

So here's the thing: ZZ. I've known how to solve it for a few months, but I started playing with it recently, and I really like it. I love the concept of EO, and I think it's useful to be proficient at. So I'm gonna pull an @Owen Morrison and use it temporarily. I'm by no means going to switch to it permanently, but it's fun and I want to give it a shot.

I currently suck at EO, so I'm going to just be ignoring inspection time for now and make sure I plan EO in inspection each solve. It takes some time, but I'm definitely getting better. I did an Ao12, here are the results:

A few sub-20s, and also 3 OLL SKIPS. It's insane how easy of LLs I'll get sometimes. The 29.99 was disappointing, but everything else was sub-26, and I'd say I'm averaging around 23.

I'm still planning on learning PLL, but I'm still lacking motivation :p
I've recently gotten interested in ZZ again as well. I use it for OH. It’s a lot of fun! I usually just switch to Heise at the last slot, but I’ve been doing 3-look last layer (COLL/EPLL) instead recently, just for a change of pace between blind practice. It’s so interesting learning about all of the ZZ variants (and reading all of the anti-ZZ rants that show up periodically).

I used to do a lot of OH solving on the train, but I haven’t taken the train in about a month obviously.

OK first off, learn the R-U-D G perms they are IMO easier to execute, the same difficulty or harder to learn than the wide movers, but easier to recognize because they all start with headlights on the left, If you look at the top speedsolvers they all use R-U-D. Secondly the Na perm that I use is the first four moves of sune followed by J perm and then insert the resulting pair starting with a U2 I am able to execute it faster but everyone is different, thirdly, where is the name of Felik's left sock did you get that V perm? go to Algdb.net and test out the top v perms or watch j perms video.

Lol whatch a pll's video on a pll

Ok, I'm faster with ZZ OH than CFOP OH, but that's probably just due to my turning getting better since I started OH. I do EOCross for both TH and OH, but I'm probably going to use EOLine for OH
Yeah, definitely line OH. cross TH.
For ZZ OH can you just do RB, y2, then RB again?
Yes, but why? You can also do line, RB, z, RB which is objectively better because z is faster than y2.

I was just messing around with doing Dw2 after first block for OH Roux, so I could keep doing Rw moves during second block. For ZZ I rotate so that I do left block on the U face with the line on the left, then rotate around and do right block as R. This gives me RUD moves for left block and RU moves for right block. I have no idea how competent cubers do it.

I just do FB(best pair decides which block) then rotate and do SB. I can just do a z rotation to make LB RU, and RB is normally RU.

Dang, 2x2 algs are the best(followed by OH algs). I'll never understand why it took me so long to switch to Ortega. Here's my story with Ortega

Eh, I don't want to

Wait, I only need 2 new algs?!
Eh, nevermind. Maybe later

Let's play around with 2x2x3! Hm, that solves corners with an Adj-Adj case
Wait, does that work on 2x2??
Heck yeah! And it's the most popular one!! I'm totally gonna learn Ortega!

I like doing Guimond practice solves, I'm gonna look up the alg for the adj-diag case real quick so I can solve this
Wait WTH this is so easy!!
Wow, now I know Ortega
Practice 2x2!!

Done with my first Ao100 with Ortega, 4.43. 2x2 is mostly what I'm focused on right now. What would be a good speed to start learning CLL? I feel as though I could get sub-4 Ortega, but it'll definitely take some work
I was advised by @Micah Morrison to learn EG-1 first, becuase you are more likely to get an adjacent swap on the D layer than a solved D layer.

I don't get the logic behind that because when you are using CLL you don't try and make a face but instead make a layer.
It's easier to make a bar then layer because there are more possible positions where it's a bar then face. And, they're both the same amount of algorithms.
