I have been cubing since late 2018 and have now gone to 6 comps (7th this month). I wanted to know where you guys were at this timeframe in your cubing careers and if I should be better than I currently am. I am from Australia and average 15.5 on 3x3, my main event is pyraminx on which I average 3-4 and I can solve 2-5, mega, clock, skewb, pyra, OH and FMC.
I got my first win/podium at my last competition and was wondering how others have done

There is no ‘Where should I be in cubing’ at this time, it all depends on how much you practise - if you’re the guy who does a few minutes of solving every day, to the guy who spends all his free time analysing solves, learning algorithms, etc. Or in between. I have been speedcubing for about 8 months now, and average 19 seconds. Compare this to that guy who went down from a 50 second average to almost sub 20 in less than a month just by spending a lot of time practising dedicatedly. We all practise different amounts.

I think you can’t really define where you should be in a certain timeframe. Different people learn at different speeds and use different inputs in terms of tutorials and advice. Also age plays a role in this as well. And most importantly time spend practicing and even more importantly how efficient your training is.

Take me for example. In the time a 20 year old friend got from 35 to 16secs i (28yrs) got from 38 to 27secs PB. He has more time to practice and also he practices more efficiently.

Just do your best and don’t compare yourself to others. More often than not this will be discouraging

I agree, just wondering if I should devote more time to cubing and wanted to know how cubers who started around the same are going

Just as Petrus said: You should devote as much time to cubing as you want to. It’s your hobby and not your job so you should practice as much as you want unless you begin to turn down your friends or school for cubing. That should never be the case.
