Human Limit For MBLD sub hour

Maybe people with implanted coprocessors in the brain can do 200, but by that time cognitive sports will be under the same situation as physical sports now (doping) and will suck anyway.

On the other hand, if we ever start having chips-in-the-brain (and I suspect we will, and sooner than most people think), all bets are off. We might very well see 300 cubes in an hour then. But will anyone still care then?

Huh? On the one hand, I'm inclined to think that, even though people are already experimenting with this, we're far enough from understanding how the brain works that it will be a matter of decades, if not centuries, before a chip in the brain does anything more helpful than predict an incoming seizure (helpful as that would be for certain people). On the other hand, how would that even work? Like an internal Google Glass, that shows you a picture of the cube in your head when you pick it up? I can't imagine anything remotely like that being allowed in a competition setting, and if there were no way to detect it then the event should simply be discontinued rather than allow it.

I predict that 1 = 0 and expect a proof in short order

Well I have BSc's in math, physics and engineering so I will say this and any other equation can be made to be true. In this case:
0/0 = all numbers
0/0 = 0 is true
0/0 = 1 is true
0/0 = 2 is true
etc...

So, 0/0 = 0
AND
0/0 = 1
Therefore 0 = 0/0 = 1

Physicists will tell you that the whole must be greater than the sum of its parts. Therefore, if you can conceive of something, then it must be possible somewhere in the universe. If not, the you have exceeded the capacity of the universe with your thought-conception, breaking the rule that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I really don't believe a photographic memory like that exists. See this article - I don't necessarily agree with everything it says, but it seems most of its claims are true.

Well I have a remarkable memory for numbers and I can recall numbers I saw 30 years ago... which means if I see any number I can recall the dozens of times I have seen it in the past-- AND there must be MILLIONS of people in the world WAY smarter than I am so it is not surprising that photographic memory exists. While I have never personally met someone with a truly photographic memory, my English teacher in High School had a best friend with a true photographic memory, and our teacher would often tell stories of this man, they were amazing. He finished university with straight A+'s while studying for 15-30 minutes per day.

Keep in mind almost all people's brains record everything. It is accessing the memories that are the problem. If you take a photo-reading course (where you flip through a book at warp speed), they teach you exercises to prove to yourself that you did indeed photograph the whole book, and that accessing the memory is the problem. They ask you a certain question which was contained in the book that you just flipped through. If you learn to use your gut feeling you can get the answer right almost every time, even though you cannot consciously remember a single thing from the book you just flipped through.

I was interested in photo-reading a few years ago and did a bit of research into it. I already can use skimming and other speed reading techniques and I can tell you any speed reading technique comes with a big trade off of context and comprehension and photo-reading is no exception. Anyone who claims otherwise is either deluded or trying to make money from it.

You are essentially using on your eyes for picking up some keywords here and there and relying on your brain to fill in the rest of the details to build the context. While that can kind of work to some extent with reading, it cannot work with a cube. While taking in a few words can give you an idea what was discussed on a page in a book, recalling a few stickers on a cube is absolutely useless for letting your brain fill in what the other stickers were.

I used to think the stuff on r/badmathematics was mostly cherry-picked; I never thought I'd see it right here in the real world...

I don't know how to break it to you, but 0/0 does not equal all numbers, the = sign is not an implication sign, and using a false statement to prove any other statement is not a valid form of proof.

On top of the fact that you've literally just divided by 0 to "prove" that 0 = 1 (are you sure you have a BSC in mathematics?), I've never heard a physicist say that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and... "exceed the capacity of the universe with your thought-conception" do you really think this makes sense? Just because you've thought of something, the universe has to like, "make space for it" so it comes into being? Do you think there's no difference between the concept of a thing and the thing itself?

To get back on track though, no not everything is possible if you just like, try really hard. That's my point with the 0=1 business. Some things are knowable a priori, and to assume that everything is possible until proven wrong is ridiculous.

I think that you can achive higher TPS in BLD events than in sighted events because no look-ahead is needed. You allready know what to do and don't have to find pieces on the cube.
Then again in speedsolving your algorithms are usually more finger trick friendly then bld so they probably balance out. Might be interesting to check out some solves from the top blders to see what their tps is. If I am remembering right Max’s wr single was > 8 tps

I wonder what average BLD TPS is. (not that I know what average sighted TPS is)
