Hello,

I recently got a Valk 3 and have been thinking about putting magnets in it, but I don't know if it's worth taking the time to do it, or if it's easy to mess up and damage the cube, and what type of magnets to put in it. I don't have $50 to get a Cubicle Labs one. so please tell me if you think is worth putting magnets in, and how it worked for you.

YES! I recently magnetized mine and it is DEFINITELY worth it. Since it is probably your first time magnetizing something it will take a while and be a mess I say 4-5 hours. For only 8 dollars it is worth it in my opinion. You can get N35s or N50s here https://speedcubeshop.com/products/magnetic-conversion-kit (it is enough to magnetize one cube and I prefer N35s). N50s are stronger than N35s.

I've magnetized many of them. (Probably about 7 or 8 different Valks at this point. I use 4x2 N35 magnets and like though. As long as you start with two and follow how I show in videos you won't mess up polarities.

Ok, thanks!

Where is the cheapest place to get the magnets?

I did one myself and I would say it is worth it. It isn't really difficult but I only ran into one problem and that was the super glue. I split some of the glue on the side of a piece and didn't notice it until later, but it had already dried and I had to scrape it off with a screwdriver. It isn't really a problem if you're careful, just try to watch for spills. Other than that it's pretty easy.

It's super easy, but take care with your glue. I also used 4x2mm N35 magnets, which I bought for next to nothing off eBay.

Work tidy, and you can get the job done in a couple of hours.

My project, including tips, was pretty well documented in the older covers thread - https://www.speedsolving.com/forum/threads/older-cubers-discussions.37405/page-705

Also, best way to remove spilt glue is using ultra fine sandpaper.

I did one myself with N35 4x2mm magnets. My problem was that cube turns harder than I suppose. Screws on springs was unscrewed to maximum. So I try change springs, but no one works well, because Valk3 has special shape springs. After then I try cut one circle from original springs from their wider side. Now cube is super fast and controllable.

I also used N35 4x2mm. At the beginning I felt the strength is perfect, but the more I use the more I hope I did it with weaker magnets. Right now if I were to do it again I'll probably use N50 4x1.5 or 3x2 magnets. It's cheaper to buy these magnets from ebay. The only downside is you have to wait a bit longer.

Hmm I got some 4x2 magnets recently, 200x n35 and 200x n50. They were kinda the cheapest ones ebay had to offer, so I dunno if I can trust the grades. Still, my first magnetic mod was an MF3RS, my feet main (with the n50 ones). It was SO much easier I expected, didn't probably even take an hour to make. It feels like to me that the cube is pretty good for hand-solving, and that it could be even stronger for feet.

Now I'm looking forward to magnetizing a Valk and a Wuque. Wuque, I think, will obviously be the n35 because of the double magnets?, but I haven't fully decided about the Valk. Now, reading through these comments, I feel like the n35 would be safer to try, probably I'll try tonight.

Nice to hear what you tried!
What magnets are you thinking of using for the Wuque?
