5x5 layer by layer method

I have been trying to solve the 5x5 with a layer by layer method, but I always get stuck with the last layer edges. I tried looking at the K4 method to figure it out, but I get confused... Does anyone know a move that switches 3 wing pieces on the last layer of a 5x5? Its like the U alg on a 3x3, except it's with the wing pieces... I hate explaining things like this so here's another try

If you look at the cube from a top view it looks something like this:
x0xxx
xxxx0
xxxxx
xxxxx
xxx0x
Where the 0's are the only wrong pieces...

Anyone know how to fix it without messing up the first 4 layers?

How about B2 r2 D' R2 D r2 D' R2 D B2 ?
That's [B2:[r2,D' R2 D]] written compact if I'm not mistaking :)

Edit: I'm sure theres a better way, But I'm not that good at freestyle commutators

Sorry to sound noobish... But are the lowercase letters (r) the same as double layer turns (Rw)? Or is it the capital?

Lowercase letters, (r) indicate to turn the inner slice, like the inner part of the r, between the R and the M. Rw indicates to turn the outer two layers, so that would be R and r together.

Oh... That makes more sense!!! Thank you both so very much!!!

Edit: I just found one more thing... how would I fix this:

x1x1x
xxxx0
xxxxx
xxxx0
xxxxx

the 1s amd 0s need to be switched... Any ideas?

uhm, how about you do:
R' F' r' l F R2 F' U' R' U r l' U' R U F R'

Edit: This one was pretty ugly, but its basically a setup and then one of the cases for last edges, it can be done pretty fast with some rotations. I would love to see better solutions for these cases :) Ville? Chris? Mike?

I know the BEST algorithm for this. Seriously, don't listen to all the people who post algs with half turns and stuff... here's what you want to do:
F' R' u' R U R' u R U' F
(inverse:) F' U R' u' R U' R' u R F

I'm using a rather well developed layer by layer method on 4x4x4 and bigger cubes. My best time on the 4x4 is 1:44.52 and on the 5x5 it's 3:04.44. I think someone who is fast (i'm not :o) cud do sub 2 with the algs i'm using on the 5x5. Layer by layer is not totally useless if you got enough algs but i doubt it will be able to compete with the more usually used methods.

Would you be willing to send me the algs you use? It would help me a ton... I'm not very fast on the 5x5, but I would like to learn the algs...

Lets revive this thread :p

coinman said, he uses a layer by layer method. Is there a real method for that out there with all the algorithms needed? Ist probably not as fast, but might be fun! I tied it on a 5x5 and got stuck at the 4th layer...

Try looking at OBLBL or K4 which can be adapted into K5.
