Hey everyone, Not really a new member but realized I never made one of these. My real name is Shawn Boucké
I solved my first cube on the 40th anniversary (May 19th, 2014). I was teaching a tech class and since everyone was on the computer I kept seeing the Google Doodle being a cube. I said "I'm finally going to do this." That night I bought a Rubik's cube from a local store and figured it out with some help form the internet.
I was never too serious about it and just spent time solving slowly learning new algorithms (Mainly ones to make cool patterns. By the end of the summer I was at 1.5 minutes and figured that was good and never planned on getting better.
By the end of that year I was around 20 seconds and that is where the obsession kicked it. A few months later I built SpeedCubeReview.com because I felt the community was missing a professional looking review site to get through the clutter of YouTube and forums (Although I do love me some forums). I have a site for violin strings so it was copying that same sort of design.
With the help of some YouTubers adding their reviews to the site (JustKeepCubing, Chris Olson, Cubeologist, Critical Cubing to name a few) the site was off. I never planned on making a YouTube Channel but that changed shortly after. My goal is to keep things professional and not clog the channel with blog type posts.
And, now I am here. Thank you everyone for your support. I am still VERY young in the community as far as time spent cubing. I may be a bit older than most though. My hope is to give back to those that have helped me as well as newer cubers.
So other than my story, I live in Michigan, was born in the 80s, and am a professional violinist. I teach lessons and perform on Violin/DJ at weddings. Doing that gives me time to make and maintain videos since my day usually is something like 2-8 (or 2-midnight if I DJ). Aside from cubing and music I might be off playing disc golf with my wife at my local course.
