Hey everyone.

My obsession started about 8 weeks ago when a guy at work brought a 3x3 in.

I now own about 5 3x3, 2 2x2, 1 7x7 and a 4x4 axis...lol Love everything about them.

My times so far are 3x3, PB 29 seconds and average around 40-45 seconds. using most F2L and 2OLL and nearly all PLL....it some times takes me longer to recognise this way than using the beginner method lol getting there though!.....my kids and family slow me down! lol

love my 3x3 for speed, 7x7 for slow relaxed play and my 4x4 moyu aosu axis for suicidal thoughts at the moment lol

Peace!

I'm 2 years in and I still don't average sub 30s but I do love blind. It's best to stick to your goals though. Only teenagers seem to be able to practice everything at the same time and still make progress. I get distracted easily which is a very bad thing. Currently working on G perms and better blind memo but pyraminx is tempting me.

Do you have any plans to compete?

Id like to compete, not really sure what times are in comps in england though. Honestly I dont think I'd get that good with a family etc, I'd be more than happy sub 30 average just for personal goals though.

I would love to be able to do blind, just to impress the lads at work more than anything else lol

Blind is a great party trick if nothing else.

I've done 3 comps so far. You get to spend 2 days sitting in a room cubing with like minded people and official times are the only ones that really matter. Registration for the Exeter comp in April opens tomorrow evening. You should consider it if you can get there. Too far for me unfortunately.

hmm pretty much opposite end of England for me lol

So comp wise, excluding the super freaks what range of times do you see there?

dude...you advanced realllllly fast. I've been cubing for a year and currently avg about 23 seconds. I'm a teenager so I have tons of free time but the only thing preventing me from getting faster is...algorithms 0____0
but wow...that crazy that you got hooked on it that fast and that good to. Nice job.

Cheers man.

I even take a few to work and do them in my breaks! Got most the lads trying them on beginner method, they hate not being able to do it, give up for a bit then start again lol they don't wanna let it beat them!

Welcome, nice to see another older Brit on here.

You don't have to reach any particular level to compete. There's no disrespect if you show up and average a minute. At a typical UK comp I'd estimate that maybe half of competitors are around 15-25 secs with the rest tailing off either side. At bigger comps where there are more newcomers and they put a bigger proportion through to the second round, high 20s can be good enough to go through. At smaller comps maybe low 20s.

Ultimately though it's not about competing with others, except for a few people at the top. Most people are there to have fun with friends and hopefully break a few PBs.

I agree. When I'm at a comp, I try to do well against my own goals and not worry too much about where I finish up.

It's just good to be around a group of like-minded people that share this hobby.

If Exeter doesn't suit you, keep an eye out for other competitions that might work for you better.
