Progressing in speedcubing [Opinions]

I recently started cubing 5 days ago. I uses the beginner tutorial on ruwiks to learn to solve the cube, I used that method along with minor shortcuts to slowly improve my pb from ~5 mins to my current 1:00.10. I am now practing 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL and have almost learnt both fully. Is this normal progression? Good? Because from others posts here it seems people struggle to memorize algorithms like 2 look OLL but I feel I am okay at it. Currently I use a random cube that I don't know where its from but its quite fast but doesn't corner cut too well, and will be getting a MoYu Hualong white at Christmas. Any opinions on my progress or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

A professional speedcubeshop might not be the best to transition from a bad cube off of. A sail is nice, you could try that. As far as speed and learning algs that's really good! You can always find new things to learn and stuff to help you learn and get faster.

Oh wow i didn't know he was buying all of Camcuber's cubes (jk). I'd say go for the Hualong, you'll adjust to its speed overtime.

lol :p

OP: If you are looking to pick up a new cube, I can give you some cost-effective solutions. At your current speed, I wouldn't recommend jumping into a "higher-end" speedcube otherwise you may run the risk of not being able to control it and just getting frustrated. Check out some of these:

Don't get a hualong is my tip. I own one. Although i liked the turning of it, though the courner twisting happends every few solve. This may not sound bad it gets extremely annoying at official solves.:)
Good process though. Ensure you learn F2l now.:tu

Poland :(
*become colour neutral
*buy lube with your cube
*maybe hualong is not the best cube(to you/at all) corner twist a lot etc
* learn algs as you are doing now, it is great way to improve.
*maybe before becoming CFOPer try Roux and ZZ(EO is really hard tho), they are both good and rewarding :) CFOP is great to ofc
Good luck!

Forgot to mention, learn how to do U2 with both hands :)

Feliks had sub20 average of 5 within 2 months since he started cubing. Try to beat that :)

lol, that's gonna be hard, although with your progress i think it might be possible. i know i went from ~1:30 to sub-50 in a little over a week just by learning PLL and look ahead, and now my goal is to be sub-30 within a month (Ive been able to solve the cube for about a month, Ive been speedcubing for about a week and a half, soo, yah)

For cube progression, If you have a name-brand rubiks cube, lube and mod the **** out of it until your new cube comes.
I went from official rubiks cube to Guanlong to stickerless Guhong to a Guoguan Yuexiao.
I learned a really crappy beginner last layer, so I learned full PLL before I broke one minute... it took me 2 days to learn all the algorithms.

try to learn other methods like ZZ, Roux, PCMS, SSC, Petrus, maybe even heise
I wholeheartedly agree. I myself know full PLL and use roux, because fingertricking fast and rotations are pretty hard for me. So I Chose roux. But at one point or another I have used all of the big 4 methods as my main method(CFOP, roux, petrus, ZZ,)
