One-Answer 2x2x2 Question Thread

what is the 'best' T-perm/adjacent-swap alg for 2x2? I already have a really good one for the y-perm/opposite swap, but I'm having trouble getting a good t-perm one. Right now I use R U2 R' U R U2 L' U R' U' R and it is pretty good, but are there ones that are better? which ones do the pros use?

I use the inverse of yours, executed as R' F R F' R U2 R' U R U2 R'. Iirc Sameer used this in his WR average. I also use L F' R U2 R' U R U2 R2, which is my fastest alg. This one's an adj-diag PBL cancelled into R2 B2 R2. I have a couple of others for different angles; (L R) U2 R' F' R U2 R' U L'/R' and (L R) U2 R2 F R F' R U2 R' U L' are two others. The last of those isn't quite as fast as the others, but the other three are all very good algs imo.

R' U R' F2 R F' R' F2 R2.

Bottom swap: R2 U' R' U R' F2 R F' R' F2

Diag: R' U R' F2 R F' U R' F2 R F' R

Trying to learn Ortega method for solving, seems pretty easy, but I keep bumping into cases I cant find? Apparently there's only five cases, T perm, Y perm, one adjacent and one diagonal, UF/DF, and UD, but I bump into one a lot where two adjacent ones are switched on the top and bottom... it's hard to explain, it's T perm y' z' T perm on the solved cube. It seems to match none of the cases. Is there something I'm missing about this case? Whenever I get it I just do two T perms, but what really is this? Can someone help?

edit: It's actually T perm y z2 on the solved cube.

The setup you described doesn't give out any PBL cases, as there aren't any two opposite solved faces. Can you check your notation and/or provide a pic of the case(s) you don't understand?

In PBL, the layers don't have to be correctly aligned before the alg. You just have to make sure the right pieces are being swapped, then AUF after the alg.

My bad, the cube rotation is y z2.

My bad, the cube rotation is y z2.

the 5 cases are

T perm
Y perm
both layers opposite
both layers adjacent
one layer adjacent, one layer opposite

it seems like this (in bold) is the one you are having trouble with.

if you have this case, do U, U' or U2, depending on case to match the top bar (matching corners) with the bottom bar (matching corners).
then rotate the cube so that the 2 bars are both at the back and do

R2 U' R2' U2' F2 U' R2 (then auf)

the other variation is putting both bars at the front and then

R2 U' B2 U2' R2' U' R2 (then auf)

in your case:

if i did tperm y z2 tperm, then the reverse would be:

U R2 U' R2' U2' F2 U' R2 (U' auf)

or
U y2 R2 U' B2 U2' R2' U' R2 (U' auf)

..A vid of someone executing this PBL alg: R U' R' U' F2 U' R U R' D R2 ? I feel like it might be better than the F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F' alg, which is why I'm trying to get into using it, but it's kinda hard to fingertrick it well.. :F

..Also.. If I get a scramble where I see no easy faces but I see one where I can use an OLL to make a face, should I just do that or still try to find a different face?
