[WR] Maskow: BLD 21.17 single and 27.51 mean

Ok, so I'm a nub at BLD, so maybe it's not as hard as it looks, but this BLD thing blows my mind. Seriously, he just picked up a cube, found each individual piece, encoded the location/orientation of each piece, memorized what he encoded, put on a blindfold, then solved each of those pieces drawing from a memorized database of hundreds of (also memorized) algorithms...

in 21 seconds.

From my perspective the only more impressive part of cubing is MBLD :p

I agree with this! Only thing is that 3 cycles are intuitive, not really memorized algs for each case, although like f2l cases for fast 3x3 solvers, they became auto-algs for Maskow.

He probably learned speed-optimal ways of solving each case, so I would call them algs, yes.

I personally wouldn't call them algs (well at least I wouldn't call my commutators algs).

The way I learned them was just learning 1 "type" of commutator first and always setuping the targets to that kind of commutator.
Then I increased new "commutator types" to my solves little by little always replacing the older less efficient and slower ones.
And after several rounds of this "cleaning" of my cycles I now have quite speed-optimized ways to solve every cycle (altough not perfect yet) that is COMPLETELY intuitive to me...

Also: Amazing solves. I can't understand how someone can do it this quickly.

No doubt the king of 3BLD at the moment

Probably for BLD in general

The leader for sum of BLD ranks (3BLD single, 3BLD average, 4BLD, 5BLD, MBLD) is Jalocha, with 15, but that doesn't mean he's king. Out of the five BLD events, Maskow holds three of the world records. Nobody else holds more than a single BLD record other than him. I think Maskow is the king of official blindsolving, and perhaps Roman is the king of unofficial solving.

I feel like I'm the only person who knows who the judge is. Adam Polkowski. Always looked up to him, he was the fourth person ever with a sub11 average.
Anyway. congrats maskow nice solve

That's how I would define the king of BLD definitely... King of 3BLD (or any other individual event or combo of events) is of course a different story, but the way I see it is that Jalocha is the best in BLD in general because he is so good in every BLD event. Maskow is AMAZING at 3bld and even more so at MBLD but his bigBLD isn't really that world-class.

But yeah well it's not really that simple... It's kind of like a decathlon athlete vs. sprinter. Obviously any good sprinter would win 100m and 200m but a decathlon guy would win other events with ease.

Marcell is arguably still the king of BLD, despite being inactive. World records in every event, World Champion in every event, Euro titles and a world class sum of ranks even after a year out. Until someone else comes close to this level of achievement, Marcell reigns.

I dunno... in boxing, if the Champion retires then they relinquish the title. Maskow's still fightin'.

Perhaps this will be decided at Worlds 2015? You going for the crown, Ollie?
