Time to get sub-20 AVG?

Pointless thread. Everyone improves at different rates dependent on many different factors. Just enjoy your cubing, practise with dedication, try to better yourself, and don't worry about whether you're "normal" or not.

4ish months... I've been cubing for about a year + a month now and I'm down to low thirteen and high twelve averages. I used Roux for a few months after I became sub 15 but then switched back to CFOP.

this thread is to give people IDEAS on how long it takes more people, and to look at what they are supposed to be learning to reach this time.

It seems to me that there's three types of people:

People who get sub 20 in 2-4 months
People who get sub 20 in 6-8 months (me)
People who get sub 20 in well over a year, usually more

But in the end, two people can have the exact same average and they're sub 9 yet one person is in the first group and the other is in the third.

Alot of what i think it comes down to, is practice, i've known how to solve a cube, for almost a year now, and sometime in october, i would have had everything memorized (beginners) for a year, i started fridrich in, umm, about march, with a RUBIKS cube that wouldnt turn at all, so for about 6 months i've been learning, and stopped learning algs in like april/may i've just started learning 1 look PLL, and it helps alot. but practice is all it takes, and a good memory for algs. but in the end, it is possible for EVERYONE to be as fast as feliks/alex/mats

i think it comes down to how much time you devote to 3x3. A lot of people who get to sub 20 quickly may just practice 3x3 alot while those who get in a year either don't spend much time cubing or practice many events.

i've done ONLY 3x3 for quite a few months, and still average around 30 seconds, alot of it is time you devote, but even with me doing 30-50 timed/untimed solves nearly every day, a lot of it is getting your algs down

Which type does someone fall into if they get there in 5 months or 9 months?

Dear Mark49152,

These people don't exist, and even if they did (which they don't), some shadowy government organization that definitely ISN'T using the WCA as a front (why would you even suggest such a patently absurd theory) would make them disappear.

I because sub 20 in roundabout 3 months. Went on 2 months vacation so didnt cube and my abg went to 21 sec. 1 week of practice and again sub 20.
Currently I am 7 months into cubing and I am already getting 16 sec solves doing white cross but I want to be colour neutral so it is probably gonna take more than 9 months CN but I am pretty sure I can do it less that 9 months on white.
Currently doing CN, I get low 18 sec avg!

Learn to analyse your solves, when you learn to pinpoint your weaknesses and strengths, then you can improve.
I started "speedsolving" in early april iirc,
And my avg100 is 15.50 now. It probably took me a month or so to go from 30 seconds to 20 seconds.
For me it was LL, I was doing 5LLL when I averaged ~30

Uhh 30-50 solves a day isn't that much dude when I solve that little I think to myself wow I didn't even cube today but anyway the 30 second barrier isn't too tough just devote a lot of your time to finding optimal cross and f2l solutions go throughout different f2l cases and make sure what you're doing is the most efficient then sub 30 should come easily
