Tensions matter in every cube (i think)... Do as Future Cuber thinks, then loosen the tensions a lot... Feel the difference...

Don't bother lubing the screws and springs, but DEFINITELY tension the cube.

(my aosu still has spring noise but I know it doesn't affect performance and it's kind of annoying. Gah)

My own question:
I find it really annoying that the slice layer of the cube that is stuck to the core by the alignment mech is slower and locks up more than the free slices. Is there anyway to solve this? Lube isn't helping and I'm certain that the tensions are even. (even enough for me anyway)

Ok I got it. So how do I have even tensions on a 4x4?

Its the same with (i think) any other cube... If you don't know how to tension a cube here is how you do it:

1. (in even layered cubes)Take Look in between the center pieces. There should be a screw.
2. (I don't know if this is needed as I'm getting my Aosu on Saturday) Take out the Center Pieces
3. Using a screwdriver, either move the screw "outwards" to loosen it, or tighten the screw (move it in) to tighten it... I dunno how to say this in a good way. Just either screw it in or out. In for tighter tensions, out for looser. Try to get the same tensions on all sides (this can be done I think via Corner-cutting test - having the same corner-cutting on all edges, as well as feeling... Not sure, as I do not have a 4x4x4 yet...)

I just got my Aosu and the inner layer had the misalignment issue. But even after I took aligned everything correctly, it stills catches. What am I supposed to do now?

I thought I had this issue but after disassembly and reassembly (don't wanna do that again -.-) found that wasn't causing the catching.

I found the problem was on the edge pieces, they were catching on each other, where the piece is put together it's not perfectly flat and it catches between the 2. I used an x-acto knife to shave it down, it's like less than a millimeter, just a thin layer of plastic but it fixed the problem, I did this on three pieces that were catching and now the cube moves great!

Hope the image makes it clearer than my english :P

edit: if you pass your fingernail on that spot you can feel the bump.

edit: Hi everyone! New to the forum :P had to post this since it was driving me crazy and didn't find an answer anywhere.

Thanks a bunch, I've been racking my brain trying to find an answer. My Aosu now turns great with no annoying locking :)

Currently, my Aosu turns fine on all the outer layers, and most of the inner layers are great too except for one, which is slightly grindy and catches in some spots (mainly when the layers come into alignment). It doesn't really affect me during my solves, but it's definitely noticeable. If this the problem that's described in the video, or is it just some plastic residue on my cube? I want to do this, but I'm not sure if I really have the alignment problem, and I don't want to mess things up.

I'd been meaning to post about the edge mod too, did it a couple of days ago. Still can't get it setup properly, it's either too slow or unstable, sometimes both. I also modded some other stuff internally (similar to Konsta) to make slices better. I'll do a video once it's setup well.

It's probably your alignment problem. I used to have that problem too. But I fixed it by following the video.

If one entire inner layer (all 4 sides) are catching and locking then it could be the misalignment problem, it's easy to figure that out. If that's not the case, take a look at some edge pieces that you believe to be catching and run your finger across the face where 2 edges meet. It you feel that one side is more raised than the other, that could be the problem. I found that a couple of my pieces had that but some were more of a problem than others. So I shaved off the extra plastic on the few edges. My cube now moves perfectly fine.

Thanks, I'll follow the video and see where that takes me

Edit: I just disassembled the cube, but found that none of the bumps are in the middle like the one in the video, and that they're all off to the side. Also, they are not able to move. Do you have any idea what's going on?

A picture/video? Describe it. We don't know what the problem is. So I can't was what is wrong.

got my aosu 10 minutes ago and i already have 4 pops and an explosion, probably beacuse of that. Does anyone know why such abnormality happens

I assume they are built by human beings who don't care what the tensions are like. Disassemble, make sure the tensions are equal, reassemble then tension evenly to your liking. If you have a spare set of Dayan springs many people have had positive results swapping them out.

Heres my Review: Moyu Aosu
Got it off the cubicle a month or two ago.
Feel: Bumpy, slightly sandy but smooth.
Pops: This thing doesn't pop on me at the tension i got it at. It rarely did when i had it looser. 5 of 5
Lock ups and Catching: Lock ups and jams don't happen and catches only when turning sloppy. 5 of 5
Corner cCutting: Outer is a full cubie, Inner is half a cubie, Inner to outer a hair short of one
cubie. All layers revers cut at least 1/3 a cubie. 5 of 5
Speed: The cube has a medium fast speed, not as fast as my SS V4 but not too slow either. 4 of 5
Control: This cube is VERY controllable. 5 of 5
Stability: The Aosu is very stable and feels really solid. 5 of 5

Overall score: 29 of 30 Grade: A Recommendation: YES

Hello,I've just got my Aosu and I have 2 little problems.1:I don't know how to loosen on the screws.
2:when I turn 2 layers eg. Rw I feel it catches a bit before moving. How to fix this?

Is this what you mean?

For loosening the screws, you need to put a screwdriver in between the four centre-most pieces and turn left.
