Your thoughts on the new Private forum?

if I had an idea for a thread, I don't really see a reason to post it in the 'regular' forum.

i think this forum should have a "hide post by" button or "hide this members post" button that you could hit and if you did want to see that members post then you could click it again and the post would show up again so i could filter out an annoying members post
or a "hide this post" like on YT but they have report as spam instead and even then comments with alot of thumbs down are always hidden so we should have that here and the limit would be like 5 thumbs down and your post would be hidden or the first 5 words would show up the the rest wouldnt un less you clicked to see more.

This was already suggested, and I've given a reason why (I think) this wouldn't be a good idea.

I don't think that type of system would suit this place very well to be honest. The majority of the conversations on this forum are worth reading, albeit not always noteworthy. I'm used to that kind of thing on forums where the majority of the input is gobshite. Not really applicable on SS IMO.

Well, maybe, but since the private forum is meant to be open to any member deemed 'constructive', wouldn't it follow that you probably won't find any constructive feedback outside of it?

Exactly. If the rest of the forum are so n00b that it's not even worth looking at, then how is building a separate section going to help. I have a feeling the rest of the forum will die.

Well, not exactly. I think that if this starts to happen, then the private forum should be dismissed. Until then, I like it a lot

Post your ideas in the Random Discussion thread, and see if people like them. You can always post it in the Constructive Discussion later if it is good. (I said something like this on the first page I think.)

What's the point of hiding it after I've already seen it?

There'll always be constructive members outside. Plus almost everybody is at least potentially constructive.

To anyone complaining: Seriously, do you actually see anything in there that you want to contribute to? And if you have something so important to say why not just say it in the normal forum? It's not as if it's the end of the world not being able to post in there.

The people in the private forum aren't excluded from the public forum. Neither are all threads in the public forum useless. So that simply isn't true at all

You've managed to get by for the last few years without the private forum, so I'm sure you can still survive now. If you really do have something relevant to say to a specific thread in the private forum you could always make an equivalent thread outside it (and some of them already exist such as comm discussion, renaming of stuff).
