Last year, I made the wooden Gans 356, which was a moderate success!

So for the past year, I've had random ideas on how to improve upon the concept and do it even better with some modern cubes. I could have improved centre caps, better tolerances, and turn any cube into a wooden version.

Recently, I got a stickerless YueXiao, but I ran into some issues. My original teal YueXiao was bounds and leaps better, so I swapped the centre caps and coloured plastic between the teal and my stickerless YueXiao and ended up with a good stickerless cube with a teal side!

However, I now had a lot of mismatched colours, so I decided, let's take these mismatched pieces and make them into a wooden cube!
Here's an album of some pictures, and examples solves below.

Overall, it took 13 hours, which is why I'm really sleepy and tired, and in my example solve, I had a 4 second sune LL, UGH.

That's really, really cool. Is the turning as rough as a cube made of wood sounds like it would be? It looks like lockups happen frequently in the video, how much worse do you think it has made the cube quality wise? This is a really interesting idea.

Also, bonus question, do you use the teal yuexiao as your main? Mine performs way better than my white ad black ones, but recognition for me has been destroyed.

No actually, the feeling of he cube is pretty good because there's a lot of plastic on plastic contact.
Additionally, I learned from my last project and I used a really hard wood finish, so wood on wood contact wasn't so bad.
There's a lot of lockups because I couldn't get the tolerances tight enough.

And I use a stickerless with teal internals, and I think the teal plastic is the best!

This is a rly great idea OMG! You can make a store selling wooden versions of cubes doe. The woodicle.something XD how bout the cornercutting?

Thanks!

I've considered it, but I'm too busy with graduate school.
These do take 12+ hours to properly make, so like to get the idea out, show people that it's possible, and hope that they can make them for themselves.

yeh u shud make it xD I mean you're the pro here on wood cubes. I would suggest erasing the rubiks logo doe and adding what the cube's company logo is. For example, for this yuexiao remove the rubiks logo (idk how) and buy a guoguan logo from the cubicle and place it on xD
