Why do you start speed cubing?

I have only just got into cubing and My pr is in my signature. 57.xx.
i am starting to learn a speedcubing method (fridrich). I want to learn a speedcubing method because some people say that I am way slow when they cant even do it themselves, and basically I just wanna get faster and stop feeling like a noob when I see these 10 seond solves!

One classmate solved that in 5th class. I wanted the glory too :D now I'm much better than him. All our results in cubing are together (beginners and fridrich method learning). My mom teached me and that was like poker. It's just SO GREAT! :D addicted...

I thank Harris Chan for my first youtube video of speedsolving ... I bought one, and I still have Harris as my inspiration to beat. Never gonna happen though.

I saw some kid at this programming camp I went to solve it in a minute thirty using beginner's method (or so he said... I know it was LBL...) and I was like wow, what's that little square thing with colours on it?

When I realized it was a lot harder than i thought to solve it, i became immediately fascinated, looking up world records, teahcing myself the various methods (or at least the cubers that USED the method, hehehe), watching youtube videos of solves (i was so impressed XD) and finally getting my mom to buy me a rubik's storebought the next year (in april 2008 -- never could solve until september because i didn't understand the instructions, and found a dan knights solution online. i trusted him because he was the 2003 world champion!!! hurrah!!!). The WR single at that time was I think 12.83?? Thibaut Jacquinot (when i was at camp, july 2007), i was so impressed.

I first saw Will Smith do it... Then learned from the first video I found, Dan Brown/pogobat. It was a thrill when I solved it, took eight minutes the first few times. Then I started F2L too early :p . But I gave up on that for a little while, now finally am faster with it than LBL, thanks to Thrawst (4-look OLL with the fishy :D, and Corner and Edge switcher) and badmephisto(2-look OLL/PLL). Best videos I have ever seen.

Got mine for Christmas, first learned by January 1st, but now my lucky PB is 41.36 seconds. Best non-lucky is 50.86 seconds. Average is 1.10ish. So glad I learned it, I am finally a true nerd.

CTY. Everyone was doing it. I felt stupid being the only one who can't solve it. At the end of camp, I finally got down to around 2 min average.

I First begin in a weird wooden cube which is Recognize as a snake cube. Then when I begin it to school, I start saying, "Can anybody tell me what kind of puzzle is this" people talked to me about the rubik cube, which I can solve it(beginner method)From 5 min to 1 min. Then what ever jcuber story is. Then, I start speed cubing when jcuber told me about f2l, Oll and Pll. (F2L keyhole method to a intuitive F2L), (oll fishy method, to a 2 look oll), and (2 look pll to a full pll)

Edit: All i need is to Recognizing G-Permutations.

I was up at Oxford Uni (England) for my interviews, and the maths undergrads there had a room full of cubes. Clearly obsessed.
Anyway, I saw one of them solving it and thought, "That's kinda sad...but also kinda cool...".

Got a storebought for christmas a few weeks later, learned to solve it with beginners method that very day.

Now I have 2 C4Y DIYs and am down to about 35-40s averages with Fridrich, 2-look OLL and 17/21 PLLs (damn Gs).

I wanna get to sub-30 most of the time and then i'll probably be happy and/or move onto something bigger (4x4,5x5,megaminx etc).

I first requested a cube for secret santa two years ago when i saw a guy playing with one and thought "that looks pretty fun."

I just solved because people were impressed by it, but now i realize that cubing makes my stress go away.
So now i cant stop cubing. I cube in school, i OH while i'm driving (very dangerous), and any time i can get my hands free!

i started cubing when i bought a cube, scrambled it, and then realized i couldn't solve it. so i went on rubiks.com and found Dan Brown's tutorial. my average back then was around 6 minutes. i just got better and better until finally, 1 year later, i'm at around a minute average.

kid brought one to school one day. became fad, most kids were 1-1.5 min range. i got a cube, learned the beginners method with 0-7 look LL. then i half-figured out fridrich by myself and beat everyone. except this piano player and this drummer.
