Beyond F2L, OLL, and PLL, which of the following techniques, if any, helps to reduce time most?

VHF2L, ZBF2L, COLL, ZBLL

Honestly newbie, everyone starts off looking for a magic question that will get them better times instantly, and in some cases, just words alone can give you a few seconds. Sadly, the vast majority of the time this is not the case, and you will learn eventually that progress is purely based on the amount of time and effort you put in, otherwise known as practice.

Yeah I know these kind of messages will probably annoy you at first, but you'll get it eventually.

On topic; Full OLL/PLL dropped the most time for me.

If you know full OLL+PLL you can be as fast as 10.07.

If you want to get faster VHF2L+COLL only increase the average movecount untill PLL while increasing the chances for PLL skip. I don't see the benefit except for better singles

ZBF2L + COLL has the benefit and the same problem (only slightly less) as VHF2L+COLL but requires learning waaaaaaayyyyyy to many cases

ZBF2L +ZBLL is the way to go IF you can master all of those gazillion cases AND can practise them untill you reach the same recognition level and performance level as 4th pair, OLL, PLL

Oh and by the time you have mastered ZBF2L+ZBLL the WR will probably be around 9 seconds on average.

Yeah. I think there's a reason that the best performing cubers are using OLL/PLL and some edge control but no more.

ZBF2L and ZBLL seems like too much work indeed!

I am thinking to try only COLL for now when 1 of the 6 OLL cases show up. At least it gives me the excuse to say I am NOT really lucky when I get a PLL skip :).

I may try VHF2L later but I don't like the chance of getting into E permutation which I don't like.

VHF2L doesn't Increase the change of a E perm.
You probably think that it permutes the LL edges, but it doesn't.
All it is is a simplified version of ZBF2L.

I know but it increases the chances of getting into 1 of the 6 edge-oriented cases, and E permutation case is 1 of them.

I actually like the other 5 cases, but don't like the E permutation possibly even worse than non edge-oriented cases.

Any good recommendation for good E permutation algorithm?

I think your time posting this thread could have been better used for practice or studying for school.

I didn't bother learning full OLL and PLL until I was around 20s and only finished my OLLs when I was 14s. And so far I can get sub-10s(full step) with just normal F2L, OLL and PLL so just shut up and practice

Nicer way : Have you tried practicing more?

EDIT
I think if you are going to use COLL, you might as well learn Petrus or ZZ.

*ahem*

ZBLL will make you want to shoot your brains out and smash them with a hammer.
It's a VERY frustrating thing.

VHF2L+COLL isnt good for speedsolving, because the 1/12 pll skip simply isnt worth the turns added. I know this from experience, because im still using it.

Kind of off topic butare you really going to learn all the ZBLL cases?

Its completely possible, trust me.
I think within the next month, ill upload a ZBLL avg of 5, once i get 5 solves in a row.

Im hoping to finish learning by around February. At the moment, im refreshing my memory of the first 4 sets, and then ill generate and do the Pi set.

Then, i'll do the U set, and all thats left is the slightly trickier L set.

Sune/anti-sune set made me want to punch babies, because of the 12 alg subsets. >=/
(With the T set, and the H set, you can mirror them, and you only have to memorize 6-8 alg subsets)

GO SLOW AND LOOK AHEAD. That's the first rule.
Then full OLL and full PLL, and mastering fingertricks.

After that I think that ZBLL would be a good option to learn.
