When to learn PLLs?

its clear now i learnt full PLL WAY to soon. back when i was averaging like 1:10. now im averaging about 55 (around 50 with some good music in the background) and i know 3/4 of the OLLs, give or take a few. maybe is should stop learning new algs and just stick with practicing. after all, i went from about 1:05 to 0:55 in one day.

Please, stop bumping threads that are over a year and a half old.

Keep practicing...get intuitive f2l down pact that would make ur times decrease much faster.

When your F2L gets under 25 seconds I'd say worry about the rest of OLLs, until then, you're pretty much wasting your time. Just learn the 2LOLL algs (less than 10 I believe?) and you can easily do OLL in 5 seconds or less (even with no edges oriented doing the FRUR'U'F'fRUR'U'f', but if you see no edges will be oriented during your last F2L slot do a sledgehammer to fix that first :P Or learn the 6 no edges oriented cases :P)

I disagree, stick with your OLLs. I learnt OLLs straight off the back of PLLs, by the time I finished I was probably averaging about 35-40s. Now I can practice to my hearts content and my improvement has been quite good so far (I think).

Right now you're in algorithm learning mode, if you stop learning the OLLs now with about 1/4 to go maybe you'll never be able to motivate yourself to pick them up again. I genuinely think you should stick with them, you don't have many left as it is and you can always chop down your F2L a)at the same time and b)when you've finished learning them, safe in the knowledge that you don't have any more to learn. :) I hope you stick with it.

This is an old thread but I was kinda wondering the same thing. I guess I'll drop by times to sub30 then deal with them...

Learn them early so you can practice with them and change them early. The later you learn, the less you get to practice with them.

I'd say a rough estimate for when to learn certain algs based on avg solve time would look something like this-

Solve time
1 min+ - basic LBL w/ 4LLL
45sec-1min - start learning intuitive f2l
30-45 - start learning full PLL
20-30 - finish PLL, practice f2l, learn algs for tough f2l cases
sub 20 - full OLL
sub 15 - consider COLL/situational algs/search for faster and faster OLL/PLL
