I have been cubing since 2008 and still have not found the best method.

I am currently method neutral, using either CFOP Roux or freestyle in my 2H solves.

For OH I prefer Roux 90% of the time.

For feet, I prefer CFOP all the time.

Of the currently known methods, I’d have to say that CFOP and Roux are both contenders for the best method. It’s impossible to say for certain which is better at the moment, but I do think both are legitimate options. Methods like ZZ and Petrus can be very good but I don’t think they’ll compete at the top level
But, CFOP and Roux have been explored to death. For example: Pseudo-slotting. Keyhole, all those kind of f2l tricks, CLL, ZBLL, WV, COLL, 1LLL, and all those other last layer tricks weren’t invented by Jessica Fredrich. (person who made CFOP) These other extremely small methods are kinda crappy because they don’t get the light of day like CFOP and Roux.

They still are explored to death too. If anything, ZZ is the most-explored-to-death method out there. ZZ enthusiasts are kind of obsessed with developing the method. Petrus has taken many forms and too has been explored to death in many communities, take Nautilus and APB for instance. In fact, I could go as far as to argue that a majority of concepts that are applied in CFOP actually originated in one of these two methods.
Roux is just Roux. It's just the best method, so it never needed and never will need developments.

I'm impartial to every method and they all have their perks. CFOP is the most popular, Roux is an algorithm that has the least algs needed to be crazy fast, and ZZ is good for people with great look ahead, but theoretically, if you could combine these, you'd get CFCE (the first two steps of CFOP plus CLL and L4E instead of OLL and PLL). Plus, it'll get me going on learning 2x2 CLL. I do M slices really quickly and the finger tricks are less difficult for the last layer. Plus, NO G PERMS, so I can avoid the bane of my existence. If I took the time to learn this, I would likely get faster times. I would probably have to wait for summer break, though, because school sucks and makes me have to spend too much time on non-cubing things.

I would say Layer-by-Layer actually.
I know CFOP and Roux,
but if you ask me to stop cubing for a few years,
likely I wont be able to solve it anymore.
LBL on another hand should stay for a long time.

Voted roux since that's what I use.

But honestly, a good method blends algorithms and intuition in a healthy way.

I don't like a lot of the newer methods being developed, the steps are contrived and not intuitive at all, ie: every method with some bizarre block building followed by some absolutely massive algorithm set just to speed things along.

However, if I HAD to pick, Cfop and Roux are equally good. CFOP lends more to algorithms while roux leans more to intuition.

I identify more with the roux approach, so that's what I use, though the roux approach might not be best for everyone.
