Hey guys, I haven't been on the forum much lately because I have been really busy with work and an internship, but I thought I would post this because I have been curious about this topic and I would like to compile some information about it. Just so you guys know I did do a search and I found a few related polls/topics, but they weren't as focused as mine nor were they very modern.
Some quick background info on me, I am a student at UC Berkeley and I am teaching a beginners and advanced class at my school on "How to Speedsolve the Rubik's Cube". I have been cubing for 7 months now and I average mid 16's on a normal day and 15's on a good day. I am interested in compiling some information about the most difficult time barriers to overcome and how to overcome them. I hope to present this information to my class to give them a good idea of how to overcome their individual struggles. FYI students in my class average from 11 seconds to 3 minutes plus.
From my research on this forum, the most difficult time barriers to overcome are
Sub 1 min
Sub 30 sec
Sub 20 sec
Sub 15 sec
Sub 12 sec
Anything above 1 minute just requires a better method and some practice, all the times between those listed generally just require a little more practice as well in addition to learning some new algs (sup 20).
I am interested in three areas in regards to these times, 1 how did you overcome these time barriers and 2 how long did it take you to overcome them and 3 How often you practiced at those times. If you guys could respond with a quick answer to each of these that would be great. If you have yet to overcome a barrier just say how long you have been stuck.
For instance, My response to this would be:
Sub 1 min:
1. simply practicing and learning badmephisto's beginner's method, 2. 1.5 weeks, 3. 30 mins per day
Sub 30 Sec:
1. lots of practice in addition to learning full look 2. 2 weeks from the time i hit sub 40 till I was consistently sub 30, 3. 1 hour per day
Sub 20 Sec:
1. Better lookahead, going slower, relearning almost all of my pll's and oll's, learning not to watch the timer, practice, 2. 1.5 months from the time I hit sub 30 til I hit sub 20 consistently, 3. 1.5-2 hours a day (summer time)
Sub 15 Sec:
1. Have yet to achieve this consistently, I have gotten a few averages of 12 sub 15, but not very often. I think I need to speed up a bit and relearn a few g's, 2. 1 month since I made it to sub 20, 3. 1.5 hours per day (more on weekends, less on weekdays)
Sub 12 Sec:
N/A
Thank you in advance.
