WCA Regulations - January 2024

@Clock_Enthusiast and every other clocker you can choose how the pins are scrambled now when u do clock with this new stupid regulation.
I believe it’s a horrible regulation. Now competitors can modify aspects of the puzzle to match scrambled components to their liking before a solve. Other clock people I’m friends with are not happy either. It’s a massive change that allows people to set things up and immediately begin, which has never existed. Things are going to change ridiculously fast in the clock world. I honestly think it makes the puzzle more trivial officially.

Yes this all I am saying finally somebody agrees with me.

I can see why people are upset about the new clock regulations but I think it’s a good change. It makes sense considering pins are not part of the solved state of the clock, and it makes clock rounds so much easier to run. It will definitely make people drop their times by a decent amount, but I think this change is good for the long term health of the event since it becomes a lot easier to hold, run, judge, etc.

Another bonus to the clock regulation would be not needing to use special 3d printed cube covers. This would save on cost for competitions and make them far easier to run, but I can see why some people dislike this change, as the pins are part of a scramble(hence why scrambles have pin pushes) but I think the change is for the better, even if it will make the event easier and remove an entire part of the solve.

The problem I have with this logic is that just because something is fine after the solve, does not mean it should be allowed before it. If you look at the WCA regs, you will see this.

10e3 If one move is required (to solve the cube), the puzzle is considered solved with a time penalty (+2 seconds).

From this, it says that having a +2 is considered solved, with the penalty of a +2. With this, we could argue that if you did a turn in inspection, it would only get a +2 and not a DNF because a +2 at the end is not considered a deviation from the solve state, so a +2 during inspection is not a deviation from the original scramble. In Sq1, you can have your puzzle misaligned (1,0) at the end with no penalty, but doing a (1,0) during inspection intentionally is not allowed and will cause the solve to be a DNF.

TLDR, just because something is allowed or considered solved at the end of the solve, does not mean it should apply to inspection as well.

I personally am terrible with the first clock pin push after inspection. I can never get my hands in the right position to turn the dials after pushing the pins. The new regulations will massively improve my times, but it feels way too much like cheating. I'm sure it will help me much more than the average person, because I'm so bad at that particular part of the solve.

same thing with me

Just as a clarification, this was always allowed. The only change is to make it clear it is, as some people were confused about it in the past.
Allowed by people who were intentionally misinterpreting the wording of the regulation. The regulation explicitly said "a logo" and it can "consist of an overlay sticker". Note that it's singular in both, no room for multiple stickers.

I don't care that they're changing it but it's 100% false to say it was always allowed.

I agree.

I hate this regulation - and I'm a delegate. Running clock is not hard other than making sure you've got good scramblers. Tons of extras and DNFs has not been a problem at my comps. And the fast clock people I'm friends with are all against the change.

This is a terrible change.

It was allowed, it just was not clear in the regs if it was.

Yep. Like I said - allowed by people intentionally misinterpreting what the reg said. It VERY clearly said it had to be a single sticker.

Again, I don't care that they changed it. But it's just flat out not correct to say the wording in the reg allowed multiple stickers.

2s++) [EXAMPLE] Competitors whose circumstances (e.g. religion) do not allow them to compete on a specific date or time may be allowed to compete at a different time at the discretion of the WCA Delegate. The WCA Delegate should consider the availability of competition resources when attending such requests. This includes the possibility to provisionally compete in subsequent round(s) before the previous round(s) is (are) completed

I think you missed this-

This was something i actually emailed the UKCA about, and they got back to me and told me they could accommodate. I didn't realise this, but later on i got another email telling me that my proposed change was a new guideline. I myself am very happy about this change but what i nded to clarify something that some people were concerned about on the WCA Forum page, which is that the availability of this regulation is up to delegate discretion and is not imperative. For example, a delegate would probably disregard this at a nationals or a worlds..
