Too old for competition?

Hello everyone. I am 44. I have been able to solve the 3x3x3 for a long time but only recently I've been getting into speed solving. I bought a speed cube and am currently learning/practicing intuitive F2L. PB 1:15, AVG 1:33. I know that is slow for this crowd but my times are coming down steadily.

My question is do people my age compete? Will I stick out like a sore thumb? I don't care if I finish last, I just want to get an official time on the record(sub 40 would be nice). Anyway, thanks for your kind replies in advance.

I'm 37 and about to head to my first competition. I'm shooting for the exact same thing, times under 40secs.
I'm expecting to compete and lose against people half my age and younger. But who knows maybe a few 'older' competitors will be there.
I'll just bet you though that the young ones will be stoked to see someone of your age who's into it. I like to think they'd admire the fact that YOU don't see age as a factor. You might stick out physically in the crowd, but you're just as cool as anyone there! I've have often thought if WCA would institute have a "Masters" age category for those 40+.
That would be neat.

And hey your times aren't slow for this crowd. I've learned this crowd is everybody who enjoys speedsolving and likes to learn and support each other. There are people here way slower than you and yes of course way faster than you, but none of that matters at Speedsolving. Anyone and everyone is happy to share wisdom and help you out.

Come and join us in the threads that h2f linked. There are a growing number of older cubers, many of whom were part of the original 80s craze. In the UK there are now at least five regular competitors in (or approaching) their 40s. At one recent comp there was a competitor aged 87 so it will be a while before you're too old :).

Thank you all for the positive feedback and the warm welcome. I am looking forward to going to one in the future. Maybe this summer on the east coast somewhere. I'll keep you posted.

I'm only 12, but I don't think that cubing is something that you can be too old or too young to do. If you enjoy it, which I'm guessing you do, then go for it!

On the 7th of May there will be a competition in Sweden to which I´m registered. I am 86. (Yes, sub 40 would be nice).
