This forum needs new mods

I think if Kir was mod he'd moderate similar to how I would, delete retarded posts that aren't against the forum rules. Also potential for uh... slip ups and power abuse... yeah no

I disagree. I think someone like Kir gets more angry at people who abuse power than anyone else, because he's been on the wrong end of it. I think that makes him much less likely to abuse power.

How about separate moderators for separate subforums? Let the leading puzzle theorists who can manage to not be jerks (Chris Hardwick, Chris Mowla, Michael Gottlieb, and a few others) moderate puzzle theory and constructive speedcubing discussion, and let the more casual forums be managed by the people who have more spice.

is already a mod and has been for as long as I can remember

I was one of the Supermoderators for a few years. About 6 months ago I quietly stepped down from being a mod as I wasn't pulling my weight as much as the other moderators were due to having not very much free time right now.

If there is a need for more mods, then I wouldn't mind helping out in a subforum or two, but not be given Supermod privileges.

I think it would be most beneficial to have another full time Supermod, but that's just my opinion.

Suggestions like this thread are helpful to the community so we can improve. We will discuss these ideas among the current moderating team, and will likely be adding more moderators in the coming days.

Ideally moderating shouldn't be a chore or a job, but more so just enabling certain users the power to moderate while they browse as normal. If it becomes a chore to a moderator, it means we need more people. As the community grows, we obviously need more help. As older members lose interest or are less active, we also need to bring in fresh minds.

Thanks for these suggestions, they do help us a lot. Please keep them coming.

I find it hilarious that the posts were coming in thick and fast until pjk posted about how helpful the suggestions were, and told us to keep them coming, at which time the suggestions completely stopped. :p

There was a bit of disagreement about whether newer members should be allowed to moderate or not. My opinion would be that they should at least be allowed to moderate general puzzle discussion and off topic, if not more subforums. This issue at least deserves to find its way into the current moderators' conversations on how best to proceed.

A couple people who are relatively new to this forum who I think deserve offers to moderate the more casual subforums are Dane man and DeeDubb, even though Deedubb himself said he didn't think users as new as himself should be offered that. Both of them have good content in their posts, and they both appear to be the type who would rather discuss than argue. They have a demeanor that I think fits the moderation bill well.

EDIT: ...apparently Dane isn't even new. I stand corrected. My mistake. If anything, the fact that he's more experienced than I'd realized makes me think he's an even better candidate.

The idea of there being more mods seems like a good one. Not that the current moderators are doing a poor job or anything. It just seems like more eyes on the forums would take some pressure off of the current mod team (every time there is a problem, there is only one mod who contacts me or takes care of issues). It is nice to see that the community is growing to a point where administration needs to grow as well

Thanks for the recommendation. I think Dane Man would be great, he's been here since 2010 actually (for some reason people think he's new?) I think he does a good job debating with fairness and without ego. When he suggested the finger trick notation, he was very open minded. I threw a suggestion and he immediately ran with it which was refreshing. Usually people have a lot of ego and unwillingness to flex. That thread also showed Kirj and Dane man on opposite sides of a debate, but both handled it pretty well. I think it shows that they are both viable options as moderators who will use logic over emotion. I'd support either/both of them for sure. As for newer members, maybe trial runs in smaller subsections to see how it goes? I'd be ok with that.
