This forum needs new mods

I don't feel like writing a long post about this, but I'll just say I agree with OP. I've definitely seen a fair amount of posts get deleted in the past without believing there was any good reason for it to happen.

Sure, they're doing ok I guess. They really shouldn't be deleting posts by their definition though, they should try to be more objective about it. I'm not saying all the mods are bad, I don't even know all the mods; but I see many posts get deleted that, imo, really shouldn't get deleted.
Wut. Nice job contradicting yourself

I was waiting for someone to say this, tbh I threw in the imo to not sound like ****. I was looking at it from an objective point of view. Feel free to keep nitpicking if you want though.

I see your point, but I simply don't agree with operating a forum in this manner. It should be possible to create a "family friendly environment" (which is really lame btw) without having to delete posts left and right; it just seems like you're using that as an excuse to justify the way the mods run the site. How can this forum be for the whole family when it seems like any post that comes off as even slightly childish is deleted?

You have understand that, despite what you may think, a majority of cubers are relatively young and if they happen to come across this website with lack of a filter (work by moderators) their parents may have a bad impression of our community. When a lot of stuff was allowed on here it was relatively hostile here at times (nothing compared to other sites but pretty bad by current standards). Simply put, there was a lot of flaming and the mods eventually had to do away with it because it wasn't helpful for the community. I mean, I'm sure older members remember the walls of facepalms, image macros, and other behavior that, while funny, did nothing for us.

The mods are doing a fine job, despite slightly over zealous deletion of posts.

I have no problem with the family friendly environment, I just think it's lame. Also if giving a bad impression is what comes from the truth, then maybe our "community" isn't as innocent as we think it is. You can't delete posts at an irl competition.

I think the main reason this forum has been successful, and has so many people contribute with post is the fact that moderators maintain a certain degree of context and compliance with the set of rules that are at the bottom right of every page here, which seems to me that is a decent list of rules to go by.

If the forum wasn't moderated like it is, certainly most people that provide content would have disbanded, getting tired not having proper feedback and irritated of having to weave through the unmoderated nonsense posts to try to find anything worthwhile. The level of moderation here is fair and appropriate, comparatively with other forums of the same genre.
Having said that, I believe this forum is not suited for every sensitivity or ideas of what a forum should be.
In this case, there are two possibilities that can be persued:
The first is do what pjk did, and create your own forum with your own set of rules for people who think they are unfairly treated here, to discuss speedcubing among themselves.
The second, which is less demanding in terms of maintance, is to just use another existing forum, with a much more relaxed and casual set of rules regarding creating accounts, deleting threads, suspending or banning users, that is the twistypuzzle forum. :)

Have fun.

You seem to misunderstand my point. Bad impressions don't come from truth, they come from rude or inappropriate behavior. "X may not work because y" (x being a method y being the explanation) is very different from "This method sucks, why are you wasting our time, learn to use the search function ******". It's basic education but besides that point it's safe conducive practice. It's all in delivery.

Despite my tendency to let the moderators deal with ridiculous posts, this one is too good for me to pass up.

Unless you have been a lurker for far longer than your membership implies, you do not nearly have the experience as part of this forum to make the sweeping generalizations that you are claiming. I personally find it unbelievable that you have the audacity to call out the entire moderator team that volunteers their time to attempt to make this forum a better place.

Furthermore, in your original post about your controversial claim that "this forum needs new mods," you did not provide a single supportive reason. You are using this thread to just complain about these "injustices" that you somehow cannot produce a single specific example of. If you want to be taken seriously you need to give concrete reasons why the moderators are doing a poor job, back them up with real examples and give us an idea of how things should be run.

Despite the fact that don't deserve to be, the few people that have taken you seriously in this thread are the moderators. When considering that you are insulting all of them without any real reason, this fact alone is a testament to how understanding and rational they are when dealing with issues on this forum.

Unless you can provide specific examples of injustice and give us a better way for the forum to be run, stop whining.

Kevin Hays

P.S. Please don't call someone out for using an example that's 4 years old when you can't even give one that exists at all.

P.S.S. Please use better grammar.

i agree with the OP.

i think "overpoliced" is an understatement. then again, who am i to judge? it's not like i pay for using this forum.

Too many posts to handle. Not worth my time to reply to all them. This is most likely my last post in this thread, I've made my points. I was never insulting anyone, if you read all my posts you would know that. If you don't believe that some posts are unfairly deleted, then you simply don't see them. I see every post made on this forum, and I can assure you that plenty are deleted without reason. And to answer your question, yes I have been lurking for an extremely long time.

Yo, I recently quit this forum, but I check back once every few days looking for cool WR vids (etc.) and this thread was just TOO JUICY to pass up.

It's not so much what the moderators DO that pisses so many of us off. It's what the moderators ACTIVELY DECIDE NOT TO DO.

They over-police the wrong godforsaken things. They delete random CONSTRUCTIVE posts that don't warrant deletion, but they let Stefan and Kirjava senselessly troll it up without consequence.

I'll just skim through the first couple pages that I see:

BAM: First one spotted, it took me 1:13.98
http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/s...this-commutator-optimally&p=995626#post995626

Or this thread, found in just 3 more minutes, jam packed with kirjava nonsense:
http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?47107-Melaka-Open-2014-19th-20th-July

If I can find so much garbage content from these two users in just a few short minutes, WHY HAVE THEY NOT BEEN PUNISHED???

Mods need to step up their game.

In my eyes, the mods have 3 options:

-Delete all DUMB posts that are DUMB, regardless of the author,
-Accept all DUMB posts that are DUMB, regardless of the author, or
-Step down and let someone more qualified (i.e. any of 7 billion people) fulfill either of the above two purposes.

Lots of Kirjava's drunk posts have been deleted, actually. I think that was a one-time thing that they didn't catch(correct me if I'm wrong.)
