Theoretical Best Big Cube Times for YiHeng Wang

The only reason I really like Yiheng is because he recently got sponsored by TC, because he cheats a lot, and does not have the best sportsmanship, but he IS a pretty good cuber nonetheless.
How do you know he has bad sportsmanship? Also his cheating wasn't necessarily intentional.
 
This was in 2023, but he cried after losing the gan tournament and tried to stand on first place in worlds ☠️

have no idea, she grabbed him roughly and took him away to their seat, with the crowd right there💀💀 the Chinese are very strict
If you have any concerns, best would be to confront her directly next time you get to compete at the same comp. And probably best to get someone who can understand and translate Chinese with you. Best to clear things up instead of speculating what had happened without context.
 
So while hanging around on the WCA records page, I was curious to see what times YiHeng Wang had for any big cubes he has competed in. Upon looking, it has shown me that he has not really put as much time into them over 2x2 and 3x3.

So I ran some mathematical calculations using Max Park's world record splits for big cubes and compared them against his 3x3 average. From there, I did the math to determine what Yiheng's best big cube averages would be based on 3x3 average.

Due to the slower single, this would throw off my math. In comparing singles, I would end with a faster average than I would single.

So I ran a different, secret, method to determine the best possible singles.

This spreadsheet attached below shows the outcome of these calculations.

This makes no sense at all. Why would you do this?

Let's break it down. Yiheng dominates 2x2 and 3x3. Let's start looking at 3x3. At this point, Yiheng is probably planning cross+2 or cross+3, so we know that 3x3 requires lots of planning. And because the last layer/ZBLS is so close, there is not too much look ahead required. Finally, this needs a high TPS. So, 3x3 requires: planning, algs, TPS, and a bit of lookahead.

Now, 2x2. At this point, Yiheng is probably 1 looking every solve, so 2x2 only requires a bit of planning, some algs, and mostly TPS.

But now, what does 4x4 require? Let's see.
1. It requires a lot more lookahead
2. It requires a bit of stamina
3. Planning becomes a lot less effective
4. TPS above 12-14 becomes virtually impossible on current hardware
So, unless Yiheng devotes lots of time into 4x4 and its different solving style, he is going to be disadvantaged. 3x3 does not translate directly into 4x4.

I could stop here, but I just want to show the sheer absurdity of all of this.

Let's look at 5x5. Now, the solving process of a 5x5 is quite different from a 4x4, mainly because 3-2-3 edge pairing does not exist. Additionally, there are several more ways to make centers. But again, 5x5 requires even more lookahead and piece tracking than on 4x4, since it has more pieces, it requires even more stamina, planning becomes even less effective (probably F2C at most), and the TPS limit is decreased further.

This won't stop with 6x6. The solving process of a 6x6 is once again very different from a 5x5. See, on 5x5 centers, there are probably only like 4 ideas on how to make a center (like T to 2x3 to 3x3, 1x3 2x3 3x3, 2x2 (from an L or just 1x2 and 1x2) 2x3 3x3,). But this significantly increases with 6x6, because a 6x6 has 42 more center pieces than a 5x5. And, because a 6x6 has more pieces, once again, lookahead and piece tracking becomes increasingly difficult, the TPS limit is decreased even further (note that 6x6 world records usually have a TPS of around 6-7), and planning far becomes almost useless. If you want me to give you a list of ways you can create a single 6x6 center, just ask me.

Finally, we have 7x7. Now, the difference between 6x6 and 7x7 is smaller than the difference between 5 and 6, 4 and 5, and 3 and 4, but it's still pretty significant. 7x7 is more "grounded" and has less freedom than 6x6. Also, a 7x7 still has a lot more pieces than a 6x6 (218 vs 152). Look ahead becomes even more difficult, requiring you to track multiple pieces at once, TPS is limited further, and Yiheng's insane planning is basically completely nullified at this point. 7x7 world records typically have a TPS of 5-6.

I'm tired of people who keep saying that "oh yiheng is so dominant in 2x2 and 3x3 then once he grows up and gets big hands then he'll dominate the rest of the NxNs too." It simply doesn't translate. 3x3 is very different from big cubes, and big cubes themselves are each different in their own ways (some ways I haven't even listed here!). Don't compare 2x2 and 3x3 to big cubes. They aren't similar.
