I would argue that all those people were already capable or sub-10, or at least very close. I think it was mainly that a mental barrier was broken. Now that the mental barrier of sub-8 average is broken officially, I think we will see many more sub-9 averages soon. Not only that, but I think others will reach sub-8 as well. I don't want to predict a time span for this, but I think it will be semi-comparable to this explosion you mention.

I'm not trying to belittle Faz's accomplishment! It is truly one of, if not the, greatest cubing accomplishment anyone has ever had up to this point! However, I think it will break mental barriers in enough people such as to start bringing many more people closer to the same times!

Crazy stuff!

I was thinking this yesterday, especially concerning Rowe's sub7.
I really look forward to the next few months in cubing - what happened this weekend was fantastic stuff!
More to come? I expect so. :)

probably nothing else impressive from me. That 6.94 took a huge toll on me.

I really want to see a longer reaction to that solve. Heh.
I'm sure your thoughts were something along the lines of
"YESS SUB TE....wait...FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU FELIKS"

Lol...yeah, lotsa tearing it up in the past few days.

Sorry but I would not say the avg5 is even close to the "greatest cubing accomplishment ... ever". Remember that he and quite a few other people have had avg5's that fast or faster in practice - and I'm sure Faz himself has done it literally dozens of times. Some luck was required for him to get that average while at a competition, but the truth is the time is really not all that special for him. The reason Faz is destroying other people so easily in competition is that, unlike many fast people (extreme case: Masato Onobe) he does not seem to do much worse in competition, if worse at all.

So basically, I'm not saying the average WR was no good, since it's clearly way better than anyone else could do so far... but that avg5 is not as big an accomplishment as some other things Feliks has done (not to mention stuff like the first 7x7 BLD and that 50 cube multi).

when Feliks got his 6.77, he just chuckled in his chair.

That was after he had already broken the record earlier that day.

This is the video of his first WR single, and yes, he was excited.

Also, the chuckling seems to almost be feigned happiness to conceal his annoyance due to ZB_FTW's immaturity.
