The Solve Critique Thread

im about sub 17 seconds with roux and still have a lot to learn but i can help you out a bit
try to get your first two blocks in about 25 move (the best can do it in 20 or less)
you can start learning cmll, i would learn a set at a time,
your LSE looks good
here's how i'd solve your scramble in your color scheme: U' B2 F2 L2 U2 F2 D R2 D' U F' D2 F' L2 D B2 L B U R2
Inspection: x2 y'
solution
First Block: L' B' M' L U' L' U' R' U R r2 F
Second Block: U2 R U M2 R U R' U' R' U' R
CMLL (this is the worst case): U' r U R' U' L' U R U' x' R U R' U R U2 R'
LSE: U2 M U' M' U M' U2 M U' M2 U' M U2 M U2 M2

scramble: B2 R D' R' F' L F2 U B' F D2 F' L2 U2 R2 L' B F2 L' D2 B D2 U2 R' B

solve time ~32s I average 31s
PB: 20s (15s one time with oll and pll skip)

Thanks! I will look at that Z-perm I really don't like Z-perm since it is easily mixed up with the H perm ;) I can get rid of the pauses when I slow down a bit. Unfortunately I have problems getting sub 30 with slow turning. I need to practice that way more I guess.

Really easy way to recognize Z and H perms is to know that with H perm, the front edge (and all other top edges) will be opposite the center piece. On a Z perm, none of them will be.

EDIT: I just did an Ao5. Any tips? I will say I'm aware of the rotating for PLL. I know it's bad, I'm trying to ditch the habit. It happened here because I was sitting in the dark...

Heads up, my mom is a freelance pianist. Please ignore the piano practice.. Also, it was getting darker so the quality is bad. My hands were cold so I might've done better indoors, but that's my issue.

Thanks!

Your movecount is alright, but you need to react faster, like the last red/green pair. Always lookahead faster than you can turn, and when you're comfortable, increase turning speed and repeat. Also, start developing fingertricks. The T-perm can be done very fluidly if you use your left and right index fingers (experiment yourself; there might be a different way to do it that you like).

Thanks so much, great comments. Will work on seeing faster than I turn and getting fluid and learning some finger tricks for my common moves.

3X3 solve, How can I get better

Hello my name is niv. i'm solving cubes for 7 months.

tnx!;)

you are doing good!, keep practicing in front of a computer daily doing averages of 12, 30, 50... time you solves and practice more and more. also learn look ahead and learn your plls and olls.
practice,
practice
and...
practice: its the magic formula

Keep practicing. Your steps are pretty balanced. At this point you don't really need to do anything specific other than solve it over and over as you'll easily gain overall speed with some effort.

By the way, an average is much better than a single solve when asking for advice. With just this solve I have no idea if you average this or if it's a "good" or "bad" solution. I assume it's a good one so my comment still stands.

Can you help me out? I'm a 2x2 solver and I average around 9 seconds using Ortega.

Honestly, for 2x2, there isn't much more besides to say to drill your algs and practice. Work on new ways to build the first face. Ortega can get you to sub4, but you have to practice a lot to increase tps.

I'd say out of anything to do (other than practice, practice, practice), make sure you use a large amount of inspection, and try and see way ahead. It's what I do for 2x2, and although I'm not amazingly fast I average about 6 seconds :)

I´ve been cubing since late february. I always solve the cross by getting all the white edges on the white center piece and then look for 2 white edges that are correct and then swap the 2 edges that are incorrect, taking about 5-6 seconds to solve. I´ve been thinking about changing the way to make the cross.
I know the f2l cases where the f2l pairs are separated meaning that they are not stuck together so that i have to separate them. I have only watched badmephistos f2l tutorial and i cant find any other great tutorial there i can find f2l cases. I use 2 look oll and i know 19 plls. I´m going to start learning the olls cuz i feel like im slow at that stage.
Time to make cross: 5-6s
Time to solve f2l: 12-15s
2 look OLL:4-7s approx
PLL:2-4S approx

I use cubetimer and i average about 32.12s of 85 solves
avg 5 27.65
avg 10 29.44
pb:21s pll skip, 24s non lucky

I´m sorry about the angle since most dont record that way and didnt time it.

Hey everyone, looking for some 2x2 tips. I average a mid 4, (high 4 on ao100) and I use ortega. Sorry about the webcam quality, but I was too lazy to set up my camera.. It is Saturday, after all.. :D So yeah here's an ao5 I just did. Any help is welcome. Thanks!

4.30, 4.48, 3.67, 4.80, 1.95
best time: 1.95
worst time: 4.80

current avg5: 4.15 (σ = 0.43)
session mean: 3.84 (WOO SUB 4 MEAN)

EDIT: Just did a 15.19 3x3 ao5. Tips? Thanks!

Definitely change the way you do cross. Just get the edges in the right way the first time and you won't have to redo it. Also do cross on D. Try to plan the whole cross during inspection so you can start looking into your first F2L pair during cross stage. Doing cross on D helps you see the rest of the cube too. Better to turn U to get it in the right orientation for LL algs than to do lots of cube rotations. You basically do a 360 rotation (or more?) for recognizing PLL cases. People can train themselves to recognize PLL from 2 sides only. Now, you may not be able to do that yet, but even if you have to peek at all four sides, don't do it with the y turns you're currently using. It's good you don't mind doing untimed solves. So when you get to the PLL stage, just stop and try to figure out what case you have with as little information as you can. Make your brain work a little harder and eventually it won't be so hard to recognize the cases.

hello everyone.
im a begginer, and i want to get faster.
i do a video solving cross and f2l.

my video:

on the first seconds is me inspecting.
i take a little more because i was seeing my camera when i was solving it, so it cost me some seconds.
but with that video you can have an idea.
i only solve the cross and f2l on the video.
can someone help me to reduce my times?
my average is about 2 minutes, and i practise 1 month
