The Solve Critique Thread

A typical solve for me
Method: Roux (I currently Avg about 28-30 seconds and started a couple months ago)

Scramble: U' B2 F2 L2 U2 F2 D R2 D' U F' D2 F' L2 D B2 L B U R2

Inspection: x2 y'
Solution

FIRST BLOCK: U' L' U M U' M' U2 B R' U M U M' F'
SECOND BLOCK:R' U R' U M U' M' U R' U2 R2 U' R' U M U2 M2 U2 R U2 r' U' R
2-LOOK CMLL: U' ANTI-SUNE (R' U' R) U' (R' U2 R)
U J-PERM [R U R' F'] {[R U R' U'] [R' F] [R2 U' R'] U'}
EO: U M' U M' U M' U M'
PERM OF REST: U M2 U' DOTS (E2 M' E2 M)

I'd appreciate if you faster Roux solvers could give me some tips mainly on F2B and possibly EO. Thanks!

My first sub 30.
just learned some OLL and PLL algorithms.
How can i get faster (besides learning full Friedrich). Thanks in advance.

Greetz Max

Love that reaction. Definitely need less pauses between F2L pairs. Slow down and look ahead. Try turning with no pauses. Oh yeah, and 0:28... that y2 was ouch...

Try timing your Olls and Plls, and drill the slowest until they are faster. Watch pll or oll videos by fast cubers for the finger tricks. If you like, I can give you some links.

How would you suggest I improve on the LL?

Your finger tricks are quite choppy on your LL. I suggest looking up some fast people on youtube for their PLL videos. There are quite a few videos of fast people showing their PLL and/or OLL fingertricks, as well as good algs for each case.

17.729, 19.782, (16.510), (20.071), 19.125 = 18.878 seconds
Any advice?
Trying to average under 15 seconds.
Edit: Sorry about the story, that was just for my friends (they requested it).

trying to be sub 20, usually get sub 25 averages (21-24 averages when warmed up) but camera made me nervous

Any advice?
Trying to average under 15 seconds.

(watched without sound)
reduce F2L rotations, work on PLL recognition (lots of U/U'), work on PLL execution

fix those center caps

Okay, well the one thing I feel like is your stressing to much. You get a lot of lock ups. You are turning a lot faster than you need to at the f2l.
Slow down... And lookahead.
OLL and PLL turn as fast as you can but f2l turn as fast as you can without pausing. (you should have a different speed of turning from f2l to the LL)
Hopes that help. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Practicing Roux

here is a link to my youtube channel of me doing some roux solves if you can check it out and see what things I can omprove on it would help me out a lot thanks.

and ive tried to get it uploaded on here but couldn't get it to work

more practice solves to follow after I get my new cubes.

26.376 Ao5

Hey guys!

At first it was just going to be a normal video, but decided to edit it so I can show it to my friends.

3x3 Ao5: 26.376 Seconds
1st Solve: (22.77)
2nd Solve: (28.86)
3rd Solve: 25.13
4th Solve: 27.88
5th Solve: 27.24

I've been stuck in the 20s for a while now, and I really want to get sub 20 soon.
What do you guys think I should prioritize in my practice sessions? Should I learn the rest of my OLLs (around 8 more), or should I work on improving my look ahead first? Also, how should I be practicing at this point (I currently do slow turning and solving with glances)? Maybe you can tell me how you practiced when you were averaging around my time?
Any help would be appreciated!

I would love to get some feedback on this average of 5 I just did:

It's about average for me, within a few seconds, at least.

Progress seems to have slowed down significantly for me, so I'm curious on how people'd suggest I improve.

First of all, try solving your cross on the bottom or left. This will help shave off about two-five seconds, because you won't have to rotate the cube after you finish the cross, and you can find the first F2L a lot faster. I saw you do this on a few solves, try and do it on all of them. Try improving your lookahead on F2L, and turn speed on the LL. Also learn all of the PLL and OLL (if you haven't already)
What cube are you using?

I would stop worrying about speed for a while, and focus on efficiency and cleaning up your turning.

I would stop doing cross on top. Overall, given your times, the cross seems to be inefficient. Figure out what moves you're going to do before you start, I'd just ignore the inspection timer if it's pressuring you to start before the cross is planned out.

There are a lot of unnecessary cube rotations, I think I saw y2s after each F2L pair at one point. Start pairing and inserting from different angles. Your turning style might be contributing to this as well. You seem to be doing the majority of turns with your right hand, which means you're doing index finger pushes for U' and something similar for D. I imagine that using more of your left hand will allow you to turn faster and much smoother. Also, AUF instead of rotating the cube before OLL and PLL. I would rework your algorithms and learn some new finger tricks. I think your turning style is holding you back.

Average of 5: 16.75
Times: 14.78, 17.76, 16.76, 16.24, 17.26
Tips how to get that sub 15 average would be real nice. :)

Solves look really good.
Work on look ahead (had lots of U U' and pauses), work on LL recognition (try to only need to look at F and R for all cases) and turn faster (I think all you really need to do is turn faster without ruining look ahead and you will be sub 15).

Thanks, I'll have to look up two side PLL recognition. And look at some better f2l cases cause I do a bit of rotation I have notice.

So a few things:
Plan your cross out more. Just because you might have to do rotations and other things during the cross doesn't mean it can't be fluid. F2L is fine, just practice and the TPS will get there. Finally, your last layer is super slow. Try OH PLL time attacks and do drills with your left hand.

Generally, just practice. OH takes a bit to get used to.
