The Solve Critique Thread

I'm double posting as a bump to my previous post, and to post a new video for critiquing.

Anyway,
Critique for these 4x4 solves? (I consider these in between OK and bad, leaning toward bad)

Critique please?

(I know I screwed up the N perm on the second solve)
I don't really have anything clear, other than your F2L seems a bit inefficient in terms of move and rotations. Also, you turning style seems so much cooler/better than mine, I have no idea how I am faster than you.

Will work on F2L. (I do have pretty awful algs for some cases)

What's your OH turning style like? You don't seem to have any OH videos.

Currently, my times range from 12 (lucky and amazing) to 18, normally, and I'm looking to be sub 15 all the time. I'm doing my Super Duper Ultra Mega Uber Fridrich Training Method, so that will pretty much be a surefire way to get down to at least sub 15, but I'd like some feedback from you guys, too. Thanks!

OH: Some lockups on L moves, a tad bit too many y rotations imo
4x4: Bad transition from centers to cross edge pairing, maybe try not rushing through F2C?
Your F2C seems to have space for move efficiency

Cubing Questions!

Hey guys,
I learned 4 look last layer, However my H? perm is bad, you know the one with all the m2 moves, What finger(s) do you use for the m side?
Also As I got Sub-35 average today, I have decided to learn full PLL, do you think badmephistos algs are good?
Also check out my (slightly slower average here)
Thanks Guys.

How can I get sub 20? PLEASE

Practice Cross and F2L.
DO U2 with Index and middle flicks!
Instead of colour neutrality, practice dual neutrality or a fixed cross.
Drill Plls and Olls
Recognise F2l, OLL and PLL Faster
LOOK AHEAD. FLUID > SPEED, STOP SPEED STOP!

Thats it from me!

Practice Cross and F2L.
It would be better to say how: e.g. practise cross BLD, timing how long it takes to plan the cross and trying to improve that/doing slow, untimed solves to practise lookahead.
Instead of colour neutrality, practice dual neutrality or a fixed cross.
Terrible advice.
Recognise F2l, OLL and PLL Faster
LOOK AHEAD. FLUID > SPEED, STOP SPEED STOP!
You're contradicting yourself here. You don't want to 'recognise faster' during F2L; there shouldn't be recognition time if you're solving fluidly.

Hey TDM, I see my mistakes. Thanks for correcting them.
How can I improve now.

My look ahead is terrible!

Turn slower during F2L, don't look at the pair you're solving, look the next pair of pieces instead.

Turn faster during LL, also, if you're doing 2 look OLL, try to remember what corner case will appear after orienting edges. Just spam TPS during PLL.

Hi,

I'm a lot slower than you are so, take my advice with a grain of salt, you know.

- I saw all white crosses. Becoming color neutral or, at least dual color neutral (white / yellow cross) could help you have better chances of a good cross and lower your averages a bit, I guess.
- I the 15.50 solve I saw you inspect the cube and do a y2 rotation to orient. It is perhaps faster to do a U2, PLL, U2, if you finger-trick the U2 very well. Or, alternatively, if you are good with memorization, you can learn another PLL for the other orientation. Just as an anecdote I use a PLL that takes the cube in the exact orientation that you got, so I would have needed no rotation. I make the same thing as you did, though (y2); that's why I have been considering doing one of these 2 things myself as well.

All in all I only see things that I could do better and you already do, like: very few cube rotations during F2L, decent cross times, etc.. And I'm a bit envious, cos' you've been cubing since Feb 2014. I've been cubing since Jan 2014 and my Avg. of 12 are around 24-27. :(

Something happened (or sth I did wrong, probably) to my 1st post in reply so I will post again.

Regarding H-perm. grab the L slice with your left thumb and index fingers and perform the M2s with your left ring and middle fingers as a finger trick. Use your right index (and middle?) to perform the U/U2 turns.

Regarding the solves:
- Noticeable pauses here and there --> improve your look-ahead, even if that means slowing down your turning speed a bit. I need this a lot too.
- High move count per solve --> in part due to 4-look LL, that will improve when you start learning full PLL and OLL, also, I guess, it could be due to inefficient F2L. I don't see the cube weel for most of the solves so I cannot be sure, but if this is the case, try and practice F2L slowly while trying to discover new, improved ways to insert the pairs (you can also check internet guides for some of those). This at least works for me.
- Slow turning speed in OLL and PLL algs --> try practicing OLL/PLL time attack sessions to perfect alg execution.

I'm not very good at cubing yet so, I might be completely wrong here.

Enjoy your cubing!

I did a 2x2 average of 12. As you can tell from the vid, I'm not that good at 2x2. I recently got interested in it, but I haven't learned any CLL. I remember some of the easy ones, but i just use COLL for most of the cases. I do plan on learning CLL after nationals.
