I and many others are sick of threads being closed by mods at will.

I feel that there should be a thread where we can discuss these closed topics.

I actually think that the closure of threads should not happen at all. However I understand that sometimes these threads can cause disruption to the forum, hence the motivation for this unique thread which would contain all of these 'problem topics'.

I wish to begin with the obvious recent thread closure which everyone wants to discuss: the 4.41 solve reported in the official results of the Perry Open in Mexico.

I feel the same way. I am also sick of getting infractions for the stupidest reasons, or mods deleting my posts for no apparent reasons.

If certain threads were not closed, this forum's quality content would greatly decrease, although I agree that some threads should be left open for discussion.

Getting infractions are your own fault.

There are a few types of threads allowed on this forum (generalization, there are obviously exceptions)

- Competition/WR discussions
- Videos of solves
- Megathreads (accomplishment thread, OQOA thread, random cubing discussion, etc.)

Everything else is deemed unconstructive and either locked or deleted. This is also why the off-topic board doesn't show up on the front page anymore, effectively killing the community.

What annoys me is when I ask a question, hoping to start a productive, in-depth disscussion, and it gets moved to one of these "one answer" threads.

It's happened THREE TIMES AND COUNTING!!!

Well I think this would be a great solution. You could even argue it would help mods when closing threads as they won't need to give reasoning, people will know to come here where it is out the way.

I hope it isn't closed without proper consideration. At least see how it goes.

Does anyone have any sources or links to discussions about this "WR" on the mexican forums?

Edit:

Can we close this thread as all threads that aren't one answer, accomplishment, marcel from holland, bld one answer, bld failure, stick races or puzzle choices should be closed

THIS!

WR cheating is nothing new to the WCA (see Rowe Hessler's BLD WR disqualification, and Castillo's clock WR disqualification), I just hope someone comes forward and sets the record straight soon, if it is indeed fake. As the WCA organisation that has to put a lot of trust in its members to keep its integrity, it pains me to see things like this happen...

Oh god this is annoying, and then no one answers your questions because those threads are dead.

I would like to say that our moderators normally make very good judgements about thread closures that are based upon experience and the best interest of the website. I rarely disagree with thier opinions. In reference to this 4.41 news flash, I could easily see how they could misinterpret it as a troll spamming (which it may still be). It is normally a bad idea to encourage trolls and spammers.

I don't think this is at all a question about the mods, but about forum policy.

The policy on this forum is that things that have been discussed before should only be discussed in one place. That's why threads are constantly moved, since a lot of the things people post are not new ideas or questions, and would be better placed in a different thread. This makes a lot of sense when you look at the forum as an archive of sorts. If I have a question, and I SEARCH for it, and find the thread to discuss it in, I want to see every single discussion in one place that has happened on the topic. No one wants to hunt down 10 threads about the same topic just to find out what people think of it. Then, if you have more to say, just add to the discussion by bumping the thread.

I think a lot of people here take threads too lightly. A thread should be a place to discuss NEW ideas and NEW questions. We don't want the archive of the forum to have 10 entries on the same topic.

Those are my arguments for merging threads. For the most part, the threads that I've seen deleted/closed have been entirely unproductive/mean...

except for the 4.41 thread. That one should not have been closed. However, in defense of whoever closed it, it seemed like a joke at first.

What annoys me is when I ask a question, hoping to start a productive, in-depth disscussion, and it gets moved to one of these "one answer" threads.

I guess you didn't convince the mods that you wanted more than just one answer :/

The way I saw it, there was a very high quality discussion going on in the 4.41 thread. There weren't many trolls at all and valid reasons were provided for and against the solve.

Just my two cents.

Why was the 4.41 thread closed?

I'm very curious about the outcome of that issue, but since the thread has been closed, someone is going to have to re make another one about it once it's been resolved.
