Start suspending people who blatantly disregard forum rules.

If you mean the average of 12 (this one), that was mine :D Unless both of us posted videos with similar responses.

Yes, he did give similar responses to both videos. Actually, his response to Hadley was even more impolite than his response to you, in my opinion. In your case he asked a question; in Hadley's case he made a statement. A totally incorrect statement.

i got particularly irritated by this because initially when he started cubing this kid contacted me on youtube. he asked a lot of questions that i didn't mind answering because it's always good to get more people involved in cubing - right?

he was sweet and polite but maybe i should have told him where to go. that would sure achieve a lot..

I've got a bad feeling about this,
I feel that I may fall into that catorgorie
You're indeed a constant supply of nuisance with many of your posts. I'm even honestly considering the theory that you do it on purpose "for the lulz" because it's hard to believe someone can be like you unintentionally. But for some reason you're not quite in the same league as crosman boy and rUnEsCaPeR.

could that be that my post are not completely idiotic

a lot of them are. your attitude is also somewhat unpleasant, i think the post on hadley's video about nobody caring was probably the worst. i would have banned you for a while because of that alone. from what i can see though you did improve a bit since then, so good for you.

No, she meant this one, although that is equally bad and looks like it happened 3 days before the post on Hadley's. I agree that was mucklowd's worst, I was screaming for a ban when I saw that, but in retrospect I think Charlie's response may have been the best.

I completely disagree with this.
So what if someone bumps a very old thread for no apparent reason.
This is a forum site for solving puzzles; I’m pretty sure its intelligence isn’t in jeopardy at all.
Some one on this forum site shouldn’t get banned/suspended for using incorrect grammar or spelling.
Once again this is a forum site not an english project.
Get over it.

We should discourage stupid useless posts if we want this to be a quality forum. Did you see the post in question? Someone bumped an old, outdated topic from 2007 (the problem had long been resolved) JUST to say "wow this is old". You think that's acceptable behavior?

Considering most people nowadays "figured out" how to solve their puzzles by watching a youtube tutorial (and I've even seen people asking for tutorials before they even have the physical puzzle in their hand), I beg to differ. Besides, have you seen some of the posts on this forum lately?

English isn't just for school projects. If you want someone to take you seriously, speak/write properly, don't use chatspeak and lazy abbreviations. That shouldn't be a tall order, it's not like we're asking you to write a dissertation. If you're a native English speaker, it shouldn't take more than a minimal amount of effort to write your own language properly. If you can't even bother to do that, why is what you say worth my time?

That's the way the real world works, and that's the whole point of studying English in school. Get used to it.

I have a question. I am for all of this and everything, it's a really good idea. But does this rule apply to everyone? Like, lets say someone has been here for a year and accidently bumps a thread. He gets suspended? This is only if the 3 strike rule isnt being used.

If it is, than I have another. What if you edited back or something and apologized? I'll guess he/she will still get a warning.

And one more question, what if you have some useful information for a thread made in 2006? Would that be ok? Would you add to that thread or make a whole new thread? I think it would be ok if it was useful to go ahead and bump the thread.

Use your judgment. If you still have a relevant question, that's okay. "Wow this is old" is not a relevant question or discussion point to add to a two year old thread, no matter how you look at it.

Everyone's too concerned with the fine points and gray areas of hypothetical rules that aren't even in effect yet. We're not programming something to automatically ban someone if they do X action. There's always going to be a mod reviewing each situation, and they wouldn't be mods if they didn't have good judgment. Maybe this is asking too much from some of you but just use a little common sense and you should be fine.

If we keep arguing over gray areas and non-issues, nothing will actually get done.

The time you have been here should not matter. If you have been here a year, I find it hard to believe that you would 'accidentally' bump a thread. Even if you do and realize it quick enough, you would have been here long enough to know that you can delete your thread.

As for adding information to a 3 year old thread if it is very useful; people just need to use common sense. If there is a good reason to bump it, for example, there was quite a debate going on previously that you believe is important for people to remember, then this may be a good reason to bump it. If not, just start a new thread.

You have a point shelly, but not every one is a native English speaker.
So what if some one uses an abbreviation, you shouldn’t think that they're an idiot for it and not take them seriously. This forum site has way to many babies that whine and complain about some one not using proper grammar or spelling.

Roflmao @ thread <- go ahead and flame me for that

The non-native English speakers put forth much more effort and even apologize for their bad English when half the time it's actually better than all those people who type questions in the form "wat cube do u use???" If you are in the latter group, you should be ashamed of yourself.

If you write "u" for "you" and "plz" for "please", I'm going to think you're an idiot and not take you seriously, and there's nothing you can do to change that. What you can change of course is the way you write. It's simple, really.

Yeah...hey, none of this applies to me right?

P.S. - when someone posts advertising, don't be an idiot and post on their thread (as I once did)...just report it.

P.P.S. - and to the people who don't like the people who post on advertising threads...don't be even more of an idiot and say "Don't feed the troll" or whatever, just report it and don't become of the people that you don't like :P

I'm a little hesitant about the people who don't fully use spelling and punctuation on the forums, I mean, it's irritating to see "WAT CUBE SHULD I USE?!?!" because that should not be allowed, but there are people that do make an effort so that it's at least readable. I just don't think it's fair to ban people for that, maybe warn if it's a bit excessively unreadable. Bad English isn't a problem itself, it's just highly correlated with everything else we've been discussing.

I think not all people on the forum are from English speaking countries so a little Bad English should be allowed.

Listen, people. Nobody is ever going to be banned for bad English. Period! PERIOD!

People are banned solely for obnoxious disrespect and being utter nuisances damaging the community. They might choose to show it with bad English, but it's the underlying misbehaviour that gets them banned, not the bad English itself.

If you're let's say from China (random pick, no offense) and your English is terrible but it's honestly the best you can do, then that's perfectly alright (though if it's so bad that we can't communicate, you might be better off at forums speaking your own language).

I don't think you really understand what we mean when we say we expect good spelling and grammar. What we're NOT looking for is formal English - we're not going to go banning people because they use internet abbreviations (which, incidentally, isn't a problem for the common ones because they usually have more meaning than just what they abbreviate ("lol" can't just be replaced be "laugh out loud"), whereas chatspeak stuff like "2day" contributes nothing extra and just makes the writer look lazy) or because they misspell words. This isn't English class and we're not trying to be grammar Nazis. We do expect a certain level of competence, but even someone who is still learning English as a second or third language should be able to easily post well enough with a little effort. For instance, "Hello , my name is John and I solve 3x3 in 14 seconds , what your times?" is completely fine, but "hi im john & i do teh rubick in 14 sec lololol wats ur times" is not.

The point is that using terrible English - when it's so bad that some people have to actually put effort into trying to figure out what you're trying to say - is really a mark of disrespect towards the people reading it. If someone is so lazy that they won't put in the small amount of effort to capitalize things and correct their spelling, it says to me that they don't respect the reader enough to spend maybe a minute of their time to make their post easier to read. Since this is a forum, and not a chatroom, there's always enough time to make a decent post.

Darn... I wish u cood forgive me plz!

But seriously, I really agree with you, but I don't think that grammar/spelling should be heavily enforced.
