Square -1 Notation

I just got my first Square one today and I am having trouble with notation. Can somebody please explsin it. Thanks

(a,b) means turn the top layer a*30 degrees clockwise, and bottom layer b*30 degrees clockwise. A simple trick that I made up quickly was that the edge pieces are "1" and the corner pieces are "2".

The / refers to turning the middle slice.

Using what I said earlier, (3,4) => turn top layer 3*30=90 degrees clockwise, bottom layer 4*30=120 degrees clockwise.

You also have to remember to hold it correctly, if the puzzle is solved, then the slice has to be on the left side of the middle edge. Like Tim said, edges are 1 and corners are 2. Just keep turning the side until the edge+corner number is equal to the number in the notation.
