[Help Thread] Square-1 Discussion

Sometimes even I need tips for square-1. This average was a bit crappy, but you can still get the general consensus on how I solve.

I seem to be stuck at a barrier, whcih is the sub-15 barrier. I can't get consistent averages with that, but occasionally get times like that. If someone like Simon or Li (lol) could give me tips, that would be greatly appreciated.

I average about 1:10 on sq1 and I wanna get faster. I use the standard beginners method, I think. I'm not too sure on the name though, but I do cubeshape (~10-20s usually), CO (~3s), EO (first permute edges to UB/UF and DB/DF then just M2 U2 M2 (I'm too lazy to type the sq1 alg)) (~5-10s), CP (~4s), then EP which takes about 15s probably.
For EP since I'm too lazy to learn the algs I just do each layer individually. Unless it's double u-perm, in which case I set the bars on L and do: (1,0)/(-1,-1)/(-6,0)/(1,1)/ then put the 2 swap on U at UB/UL and the one on D at DB/DR, then I do (1,0)/(3,0)/(-1,-1)/(-2,1)/(-1,0)

What should I do to get faster? Btw, the times are just estimates from my mind, so I'm not sure how accurate they actually are.
I'm using a mf8 v2 sq1 too.

Learn the adj/adj and opp/opp algs for EP and that's basically all you need. You can easily bring your EP time under 10 seconds with little practice.
And for parity, learn CP-Parity algs. They're much shorter than the EP Parity one.

I mean recognizing for parity cp. How can you tell if it is parity?

Look at all the pieces on the each layer. (corner and edges)

Each individual layer has a parity state.
The layer can either have a even permutation (it can be solved with PLL on the 3x3) or it can have an odd permutation (can't be solved with PLL on 3x3)

If both layers have the same state, the cube can be solved without a parity alg. (odd + odd = even)
If the two layers have different states, you need to use cp parity.

It's not that different from recognizing parity before EP. All you have do is check the corners as well.

So I do cubeshape by either pairing all edges or do kite-kite, barrel-barrel, similar fist, scallop-scallop, kite-scallop, shield-square or kite-barrel. How should I progress? Learn more algs? I avg about 1.

adj ccwO - BR, left - 1/3/-1,-1/-2,-1/3/0,3/-1,-1/0,3/1,-5/
ccwO adj - right, BL - 1/3/-1,-1/-2,-1/0,3/0,3/-1,-1/0,3/1,-5/
One - too much in there :p
1,0/3,0/-1,-1/-2,1/3,0/0,3/-1,-1/0,3/1,-5/[-4,6]
1,0/3,0/-1,-1/-2,1/0,3/0,3/-1,-1/0,3/1,-5/[-1,3]

For those that use parity cp, I have a question:
If you get a cp skip and you see parity in the ep, how would you fix it?

This is the probably the worst method but I use the N/N CP Parity alg and transition it to the N/N CP alg. But I've gotten used to it

N/N CP Parity: / 3,3 / 1, 0 / 4, -2 / 2, -4 / 0, -4 / 3, 3 / 3, 0 / 3, 3 /
N/N CP: / 3,-3 / -3,3 /

Combined: / 3,3 / 1, 0 / 4, -2 / 2, -4 / 0, -4 / 3, 3 / 3, 0 / 6, 0 / -3,3 /

Best Square-1 method.

Hi everyone!
I am currently using roux for square-1 and I am stuck at 30 seconds and I'd like to know what is the best method if there is any.
