[Help Thread] Square-1 Discussion

I may as well get in my recommendation. If you're interested in avoiding annoying parity cases, and significantly reducing the amount of EP cases, you could try learning CP+Parity.

... but isn't your official average incredible for you and your single normal? :p

Also, if you want to learn CP parity, I have a list of algs in my sig (at least, the algs I would use...) They're the ones that are best-suited for my fingertricks.

Well if you take a look at the people ahead of me in the ranking for average, you'll notice a trend for single, like 10s, 20s, and 30s, then all of a sudden, when you get to me, it bumps to 68, then goes back to the 30s.

Need. to. improve. single. record...
(sounds of exasperation)

why u no use cp parity?

If I'm just learning Square-1 , know how to solve it with the beginner's method , what should I be learning to get good times, and in what order? I apologize, I know next to nothing about square-1 lol

CO, EO (Both shouldn't take too long)
Cubeshape
Non-parity EPs like H, Z, U's, O/Opp, Adj/adj, Opp/Opp which are fairly easy.
Parity CP.

This necessarily may not be the best for you but that's how I progressed =]

So...I'm trying to get into SQ1 and need advice.

I currently average about 38 with Screw using awful group edges and a J perm and U perms for LL.
I just want to average sub 20. If I were to learn all the PLLs and get advanced cubeshape down, do you think I could do it? Or am I better off dropping Screw?

Switch to Lars. You'll be much faster.
You should also get advanced cubeshape down. I'm not familiar with the screw method all that well.
How to recognize parity before cp?

I am learning some ep's. If I get a case like u/z do you think I should do the two adj/adj swaps or use u and z?

Unless you can track down an odd number of swaps during EO, you can't identify parity before cp. Just use parity cp, parity and cp, or parity ep.

I use the double adj/adj swap for u/z. The actual alg is just adj/adj with cancellations. You can learn it if you wish to save moves.

are you using jason baums method or screw?

do you mean before executing or getting to cp?
recognizing parity cp is the same as pll on 4x4
